Hello I am taking 3 a day and atill feel very sick but haven't actually been sick since starting.

Is this as good as it gets?

I feel so bad at 11 weeks. I am dreading feeling like this the whole time.

They helped a bit with the vomiting for me but didn’t touch the nausea- I also found a very strong rebound effect when they wore off, which was fast.
I’m sorry- it’s such a shit thing isn’t it? Flowers

twirlywho · 15/06/2018 20:48

Thanks bowlofbabelfish. It's just shit and debilitating. When did your sickness ease off? I can't see mine going anywhere within next couple of weeks.

It's been 7 weeks now. I'm just ground down.

I’m on ondanestron at 18 weeks, still sick sometimes and still nauseas a lot of the time. Morning sickness absolutely sucks. Hope you get some relief soon

twirlywho · 15/06/2018 21:31

Thanks guac I hope it shifts for you soon.

Taking ondansatron and metoclopramide together lessened my nausea so I’d ask about that. I still had nausea in varying degrees and vomited sometimes but it was manageable.

I know this isn’t what you want to hear but I’m afraid mine lasted until birth but, it did ease as long as I stayed on the meds and did self- help stuff like regular meals and avoided trigger foods.

I really feel for you. I suffered with hyperemesis with my first pregnancy from 5 weeks up until I gave birth. I was prescribed cyclizine (for night time) and metrocloprimide three times a day. The sickness was always there but the medication made it much more manageable and kept me out of hospital (once I started it at 8 weeks).

Perhaps talk to your midwife to see if they can add in another medication to help ease your symptoms.

For me ondansetron were (are) the best of the bunch - I'm still taking them intermittently at 23 weeks. IIRC 3 a day isn't the max dose though - I was prescribed 3 but was told I could take more if needed. That's assuming your pills are 4mg like mine. Might be worth speaking to the GP and seeing if you can up the dosage.

If it's any comfort at all, whilst my HG is still rumbling along for me about 11-14 weeks was basically peak puke. It's not magically vanished at the end of the first trimester like many doctors say it will but it did improve a bit.

I tried cyclizine, metaclopramide and prochloperazine in various combinations and for me the ondansetron were the best of the bunch - not perfect but they were the most effective and the one with the least side effects as the others all knocked me out!.

Agree with PP, ondansetron does nothing for nausea... Now 33 weeks and cannot WAIT to not feel sick any more. It has got a lot better after about 23 weeks. The horrific taste in mouth and utter exhaustion also died down. Good luck with it :-) it'll all be worth it in the end :-)

Hotchocolate86 · 16/06/2018 06:11

I am 23 weeks now and taking ondansetron and cyclizine. In the last week I have finally noticed a bit of an improvement and as long as I take the ondansetron religiously every 6 hours my nausea is at a more manageable level. There are still days where I dry heave and various triggers that make me feel rough though. The actual vomiting became rare after 12 weeks though when I was put on steroids. I hope you feel better soon. It’s awful feeling so rough.

aetw · 16/06/2018 07:16

Could you try cyclizine? It was a bit more groggy but I found that to be the best. Better than metroclopromide which just emptied my stomach and made me feel more nauseous.

booandbumpp · 16/06/2018 07:45

21 weeks and still on ondansetron and cyclizine and if I don't take it I bloody know about it. Cyclizine Helps with nausea I think so you might want to ask about that. Hope yours eases soon!

twirlywho · 16/06/2018 07:56

Thanks so much I was taking cyclizine but still being sick. Will see if I can take both... the days I felt the best I suspect I still had that in my system.

For me cyclizine was good (ish) for nausea but useless for vomiting with metaclopramide being the other way round. So I'd be inclined to give the cyclizine a go alongside it.

BikeRunSki · 16/06/2018 08:04

I agree, all the anti-emetics I took stopped the vomiting, but don’t touch the nausea. IV cyclizine was pretty effective, but largely because the trippiness gave me something else to think about.

Have you seen this site OP?

twirlywho · 16/06/2018 20:41

Thanks bikerunski I will take a look.

I just wanted to say I came off my ondansetron when I was around 13 weeks and by that point I seemed to be improving a little and had missed some doses and was no worse when I had missed them, and it was making me dizzy which was in turn actually making me more nauseous and unwell. I continued to improve and returned to work initially on part-time hours when I was about 16 weeks. By about 20 weeks I was mostly my normal self bar nausea in the mornings and occasional vomiting in the mornings/travelling/strong smells setting me off etc. I just wanted to say that because I can see lots of women here have been very unwell until birth etc but it's not like that for everyone, some of us do mostly recover much earlier. Fingers crossed for you Flowers.
