Thought we could do with one of these for ladies who’ve even experiencing bleeding and/or spotting in pregnancy.

I'm not a regular poster but could do with some advice/reassurance! I'm 22 weeks.

Phoned midwife this morning as I've had some pink spotting the last few days - it started after straining on loo. Midwife didn't seem to know what the cause was and said to keep an eye in case it gets worse so now I'm worried :( baby seems to be moving ok.

Ask your midwife about cervical ectropion. I’ve got it and it’s basically a graze on the cervix. It’s caused pink and brown streaked mucus this time as well as red pin prick spotting. Very disconcerting and I’m only 10 weeks gone. Having another scan on Monday morning thanks to mild cramping for the last couple of days. My local EPU have been fantastic so far. I can self refer anytime I like until 20 weeks.

My bleed was also after straining on the loo this morning. If baby is still moving I wouldn’t worry, you can buy a plastic wristband from count the kicks which has numbers and plastic window that you slide on every time you feel a kick. My friend is a similar gestation to you and she says it’s so much easier than opening up an app in your phone to record it. To me your midwife doesn’t sound too concerned, naturally she’d advise you to keep an eye on it.

I'm in a similar situation. I'm 10+2 today and have had mild spotting at 6 weeks and 8 weeks. At exactly 10 weeks I had some mildly tan coloured tinged discharge. Now I think about it all have happened after straining so had been trying really hard not to. Was starting to feel more confident but nausea has really eased off this week/last week so am worried again. I was pregnant before and had MC at 10+4 after seeing heartbeat at 7 weeks. I had spotting every week with that pregnancy but it was very different in consistency/flow etc. Not got scan until 7th July!

Iswallowtoothpaste · 15/06/2018 19:46

@SophieStripe you’re about the same gestation as me. Hopefully it’s nothing to worry about. I’m hoping that it’s just been because of straining but the cramps really frightened me this morning even though they weren’t really painful. I also think it’s white common for symptoms to taper off a bit at this stage when the placenta is getting ready to take over. I have days where I’ve got no symptoms at all and then days where they hit me like a ton of bricks.

Hi Ladies,
This is my first ever post but I wanted to share my story with you. At 7 weeks I felt massive cramps come on very suddenly, I went to the toilet and I was dripping blood. 111 wanted to send an ambulance but as we live in such a tiny village I insisted on OH driving me to A&E (didn't need wagging tounges).Once there they said we must have miscarried as there was no way that much bleeding could be anything else. After a very sad, painful weekend we went to see if it was a "full and complete miscarriage" or if I needed medical assistance. At the scan they found babies heart beat. I had a "massive hematoma" a sac of blood that may have been caused by the egg implanting in one place then settling in another. I bled on and off for the next 5 weeks. Each time the baby could have been dislodged and lost. But it hung on. I am now nearly 29 weeks and we are so looking forward to meeting our little miracle baby. There are so many things that can cause bleeding in pregnancy- a scan is the best way to find out and set your minds at ease- I would ask my midwife for one if you are concerned.

Sorry for the long post!

Iswallowtoothpaste · 15/06/2018 20:13

DevonRosie wow! What a story! And a strong little bub you have. I was reading a medical journal recently which said that someone once conducted a study of 789 pregnant women and 13% of them had hematomas - so quite a few!

Know what you mean about living in a small village and tongues wagging!

Thank you OP - I'll look into the bracelet, baby has been kicking well this evening which is reassuring! I hope your scan goes ok on Monday.

Wow devonrosie what a story, you have a strong little baby in there!

Hey!
Im a first timer, 9 weeks and I've had some hormonal bleeding too, at 4 weeks and again at 8 ...so I'm preparing for more at 12. Called the midwife, she said it does happened and that I could get a early scan but I put it off. My spotting has been super mild and I really don't what the extra stress of going to the hospital when my story is much more milder than others. The coming and going of symptoms really doesn't help but I kept telling myself worrying about won't help even thou I keep worrying XD.

Iswallowtoothpaste · 16/06/2018 11:40

SparklingNarwahl mines followed a bit of a pattern like that too. First bleed would’ve been 6 weeks then this bleeds been 10 weeks. Was scanned at just over 7 weeks and all was ok with good heartbeat. Have got a scan on Monday morning due to more bleeding and mild cramping/lower back ache. Wouldn’t have been as worried if it was just one or the other but with both together, I thought I’d best get checked out. I then have my 12 weeks scan two weeks on Monday but I’ll be nearer 13 weeks then if all goes to plan.

My spotting has been pretty insignificant too and our small, local hospital doesn’t have an EPU so have to drive to a bigger town to a bigger hospital which I always find very daunting. I will say though that they were absolutely fantastic when I went at 7 weeks. Had my BP taken, weight and height etc checked then they asked me to go sit back in the waiting area. Had even sat down when I was called in to speak to a lovely nurse about my symptoms, allergies, how far on I thought I was etc. Sat back down again and literally 2 minutes later was called in for the scan and after that had an internal by a gynae doctor who said that cervical ectropion may well be the cause for the bleeding I’ve been experiencing. I was reassured that this sort of bleeding wouldn’t harm the baby at all. I couldn’t fault them and even better, I can self refer any time up to 20 weeks.

Just trying to say that sometimes it really is better to go and get checked out instead of sitting at home and worrying.

Wouldn’t worry too much about symptoms. Some days mine are barely there and othe days they hit me like a ton of bricks!

I wanted to let people know that there is some hope even when bleeding. I had three big bleeds to the point of going through my jeans/ down legs in a&e. These were at 6,8 and ten weeks and in between. Touch wood from then on nothing. I have big bleeds showing on the scans each time and finally on 20 week scan there was no more. It’s very scary and worrying but I’m now 32 weeks. Flowers

venus417 · 17/06/2018 15:39

Im pretty much the same as @devonrosie. Had first bleed at 8 weeks at which point we found it we had lost 1 of 2 babies and the other 1 continued fine til 12 week scan. Everything was great on the scan and then at 14 weeks had a massive bleed. Was absolutely certain had lost the 2nd baby, however scan showed baby fine but a haematoma the same size as the baby. Im now 18 weeks and havent stopped bleeding since. Had a scan at 16 weeks and got another on friday as per my care plan. Its so stressful. Some days the blood is really dark and others its really fresh. If i went in everytime i bled fresh blood id be pretty much living there. I currently have a 3 yo and 8mo whilst trying to hold down a full time job. Im glad of this thread.

Iswallowtoothpaste · 17/06/2018 16:31

venus417 that must be horrendous for you! I really enjoyed my pregnancy with DD after the initial bleed but have a feeling that this one is going to be much more fraught if I’m lucky enough for it to continue. Will the haematoma shrink over time or are they not sure what will happen with it?

The advice is alway to ‘rest’ but it’s so hard with work and other children. My two have been an absolute nightmare this weekend. All I’ve done is shout at them which isn’t like me at all. We’ve had split lips, bleeding noses, black eyes etc. Trying not to stress myself out more but it’s hard!

Just to add my story:
I had three huge, horror-movie style bleeds at 10, 15 and 19 weeks, plus spotting almost every week in between. This was also due to a subchorionic hematoma and then a low lying placenta (which seem to be in some way linked). It took all the enjoyment out of pregnancy for me and I was a bag of nerves every time I went to the toilet. I was hospitalised twice and thought we'd lost her more than once, but our little girl is now 3 and beyond perfect.

Iswallowtoothpaste · 17/06/2018 17:16

farmerswifey2 I’m a farmer’s wife too. Well farmer’s partner 😉 gosh I’m freaking out about a small amount of bleeding which is only visible when I wipe. That must’ve been horrendous, I think I’d be passing out and fainting with worry! Women really are just pure warriors 💪

Grateful to have found this thread. I am 13 weeks and had a big bleed last night. EPU said to monitor, baby had heartbeat on scan. Am in bed at moment and bleeding has slowed up a bit but I'm terrified about the cause and about it coming back / getting worse.
