Gestational diabetes

My mam has diabetes so every pregnancy I am tested for gestational diabetes as a precaution. I've never had it.

This is my 4th pregnancy and I just got a call from the hospital to say my test results for GD came back high at 9.10 so I've to go back next week for another test to confirm if I have GD.

Has anyone else had results like this and not had GD?

What test did you do?

I had a 2 hour fasting test and came back 7.8 which was the limit for GD (7.7 and I would have been ok). I didn't have another test.

Currently diet controlled however each trust is different from what I gather: there is a really good FB page called gestational diabetes and a website which you may find useful.

They gave me some glucose to drink then I had a blood test an hour later. They said this was an initial test that usually people pass so I wouldnt have to do the longer test which is fasting then glucose then bloods taken once an hour for 3 hrs. I didn't need to fast for this but the app was at 10 in the morning and I didn't have time for breakfast so I hadn't eaten since 7 the night before.

My result from this test was 9.1 so now I have to do the longer test.

Just wondering is it possible to get a high result and not have GD.

As far as I'm aware, if you have a high result you will need to start monitoring your blood sugar at the very least. GD gets worse as pregnancy continues so if anything, your blood sugar gets higher. Mine was borderline but I was taking insulin fairly soon after diagnosis. A lot of women are lucky though and manage just by a bit of a change in diet.
