Friends and family want to start buying clothes for baby. I'm still pregnant. What size should I tell them? New born, 0-3 months?

I would say mostly 0-3 or even 3 to 6. They grow so fast!
My four all wore newborn for about 3 weeks. However my second baby was tiny and newborn swamped her so had to go and buy some in tiny baby size. My fourth was my biggest and wore newborn ( which was snug) for about a week and a half before going up a size. He's 9 months now in size 18-24 months.

My 3 month old can't wear sleepsuits as she is too long - her toes had blisters one morning as her feet are so big! She lives in 'proper outfits' and leggings/t-shirts now and we have probably 30 sleepsuits which are brand new which just don't fit!

I'm always amazed by these threads ie what you need for a new born. I have had 3 children ; all average sized. I didn't buy any newborn outfits. It felt hard to justify for the sake of a few weeks. My middle child was light and looked more comfortable in the one and only newborn babygro that we were given but not to the extent that I bought more. The other two who were planted squarely on the 50 th centile for weight and height wee fine in the 0-3 month vests and babygros.i think I bought 2 three packs of white babygros from Tesco for my first DC and they did me. Same number of vests.one gets given clothes of varying suitability and if you are lucky someone knits you some little cardis don't stress; if you are stuck after the baby is born Amazon works.

Buy as few clothes as possible until you know what size baby you have and what sort of clothes you and baby prefer. And buy full outfits or you won't use them.

My baby wore newborn size for about two weeks, would have been a huge waste if we had more than a couple of outfits. The 0-3 month size only lasted until 8 weeks old. But my niece was tiny so none of her clothes fitted and her dad ended up in Asda at 2am looking for tiny sleepsuits!

And we wasted loads of clothes that were never worn because people gave us tops with no matching bottoms, footless suits with no matching socks, etc. By the time we emerged from the new baby fog and thought about buying the matching bits to make up an outfit, the clothes were too small.

Also I bought tiny trousers which looked cute but were a pain to put on and the baby found them uncomfortable and wouldn't sleep unless I changed him into a sleepsuit. I found I much preferred dungarees because they didn't ride up and were easy to put on because of snaps around the legs. My friend on the other hand loved stretchy leggings. Most of my tiny trousers were barely worn.
