Induced labour - any positive stories?

I am 40 weeks today with baby #2. I'm hoping that this baby will come naturally, DD was 10 days overdue but spontaneous labour.
I'm terrified of being induced. I've heard lots of horror stories about induction and most I've heard of have ended in csection which I really don't want.
Has anyone had a positive induction? Can I hear about it please?

3 babies, 1st & 3rd baby were induced at 38wks.
1st induction was with a pessary. 1st pessary about 9am, 2nd at about 6pm. Mild, period pain like contractions through the night, established labour at 8am, quite a quick labour using gas & air. Baby was back to back & turned on her way out so I needed a small episiotomy and ventouse.
3rd baby was with the lace induction. It's in for 24hrs. Was checked after 24hrs and I was soon sent to delivery. Had to have a drug to slow down my contractions, but a couple of hours later baby arrived. Again using gas & air.
My inductions were great. I actually found baby 2's labour more painful.
Hope all goes well

I had one rubbish induction first time and was induced for my second, I was already in slow early labour so they could break my waters. 4hrs later baby was here! It was such a great experience

Underparmummy · 14/06/2018 15:21

Had it done 3 x at just 38 weeks.

Panicked a bit with first and took epidural. Was much calmer with 2 and 3.

Stay calm and you will be fine.

Tubbyinthehottub · 14/06/2018 16:34

Yes, me. Pessary at 11am, baby at 8pm in the pool. No tears or anything.

rebelrosie12 · 14/06/2018 16:37

Exactly the same here. I had first who was 10 days late, second was induced and honestly it was fine. If I had to choose again i preferred the induction because I felt more in control, more predictable if you like. Absolutely fine.

I was induced with my first son. 2 hour labour. I've heard induced labour is more intense than natural labour as it is forced x

Seafoodeatit · 14/06/2018 16:49

Hi, I was induced with my second too, I had the pessary put in the evening, Contractions started at midnight, established labour at 3 am and baby was here at 6 am, she would have been here a bit sooner but it took ages for head to drop into the birth canal and light forcep use in the end after being prepped for a c-section but only two tiny stitches needed in the end and these complications were because of circumstances at the time not induction- there's nothing to say you'll need any intervention.

Well I'm one day over now and still waiting. Been having plenty of braxton hicks so hopefully I'll beat the induction. I've planned a home birth so really hoping to avoid induction mainly because I really don't want to be in hospital!

My wife was induced for our twins at around midday.

Jaysus if the wee guys didn’t come zooming out a few hours later. It was quite something. They arrived in time for dinner.

Recovery seemed quicker than I expected.

Good luck!

Ceebs85 · 14/06/2018 22:27

Me. I'd happily have exactly the same labour next time.

Waters went but nothing progressed so I was induced 24hrs later with the drip. Brought on contractions quickly but I managed with gas and air. I stayed stood up for hours. From 8.30pm til 4.30am and by then was totally exhausted. By then I was 4cm, I was falling asleep in between contractions so unable to keep on the gas and air. Decided at that point to have an epidural. It allowed me to get some sleep. Woke up a few hrs later ready to push.

Couldn't feel the pain of contractions but could feel the pressure so I had her out within a few pushes. I'm 21wks pregnant now with a 10month old so I'm obviously not traumatised! Grin

Its not a horror story but I was induced via drip in an attempt to regularise my contractions. It did not work, just made them stronger but still random. However, DD was safely delivered via forceps. The whole process took a few days (labour started on Sunday and DD was delivered Thursday AM). Stock up on energy giving food products but bear in mind, that if it drags on, you may be tired. My midwife recommended an epidural to help with this. Downside was I then wasn't allowed to eat! The epidural was not the reason for forceps. DD was at a funny angle that no one foresaw and would never have come out without assistance. So, not a horror story and no c section either. Recovery was fine. Took about 10 days to not want an ice pack on my bits. But as long as I rested this was fine. Good luck.

1st and 3rd baby were induced. I was overdue with my 1st & it didn't go horribly wrong, I just didn't know how to cope & was naive to it all. Had an epidural & labour was about 7 hours. 3rd baby was 3 weeks early. The worst part was the thinning of my cervix. I was no where near ready having her & my body thought so too. Midwife broke my waters at 3cm to speeds things up & she was out less than an hour later. Being induced can be more painful, my midwife said it's because it's forced labour, but your body does tend to 'remember' what to do if you've had a baby before & the end result is worth it. Try to keep yourself focused, don't put too much on yourself to not take any painkillers. My MIL moaned at me for having too much gas & air so I asked for more. Midwife was not impressed with her 'no drugs rule' & constant nagging about it. I'm just lucky that labour was my 2nd baby & I was 7cm gone by the time I got to hospital & she was out within 30mins of arriving. Imagine having to deal with that preaching for 12 hours plus Hmm Good luck & I hope all goes well with you & baby SmileFlowers X

Totally fine too. 40 weeks dead on.

Into hospital at 2pm. Monitor and gel.

Big bleed at midnight and yes the diamorphine was amazing onto labour ward at 2am. Journey to labour ward went from 5 to 10cms dilated and they broke my waters at 3am.

DD born 45 mins later.

Registrar asked me if I had a plane to catch :)

Recovery fine. It honestly was really positive.

Aspenn17 · 15/06/2018 07:09

I went in for induction at 40weeks due to polyhydraminous. Pessery went in at midday, very mild contractions started around 6pm, waters broke at 10pm (huge woosh like in the movies!) and everything sped up from there. So I avoided the drip altgogether and was allowed a pool birth in the end.

Ended up with an episiotomy but did it all on gas and air and was holding my daughter by 6am so I feel like it was a fairly quick and positive labour. Good luck! x

Smarshian · 15/06/2018 15:44

Thanks for all your responses. Baby was born this morning after a spontaneous 2 hour labour! So no need to worry anyway. All safe and well.

My second induction was great! Induced using a pessary at 4pm, then had a nice evening and a good sleep.

I'd had slight twinges through the night, but the painful (but not unbearable) contractions began at 6.30am
Waters broke at 10.05am
Pushed for less than 10 mins and DS2 was born back to back at 10.20am

Only needed paracetamol, and gas and air, no interventions either despite his unhelpful position.

Slight tear but it didn't bother me even during the dreaded first post birth wee/poo!

mildshock · 15/06/2018 18:17

Oops! Didn't rtft.

Congratulations! Thanks
