Flying when pregnant

Hi ladies, I'm going away this week with my husband, we are flying to Amsterdam it's only about an hour n half flight but I'm worried about flying while pregnant, I'm 21 weeks. We booked this trip before I fell pregnant. I'm going to get insurance and take my notes with me but the flying bit is worrying me. Anyone else's flown while pregnant? Smile

What are you worried about? It’s perfectly safe and for a short flight you don’t need to take any extra precautions.

Yes, just got back from a holiday with a 2 hour flight each way. I was 34 weeks when we left, and 35 weeks when we returned. All was fine, although they did ask to see my “fit to fly” letter (you wn’t need this before 28 weeks). Also make sure you are happy with the terms of your travel insurance. Mne was with John Lewis, and covered everything I needed it to.

What is your concern? Flying when pregnant is fine. I did it quite a bit for work and pleasure, including a number of long haul trips. I stopped when a problem (unrelated to flying) was discovered at 28 weeks and I became high risk needing close monitoring.

Yea I recently flew to Greece so 3.5 hour flight each way at 30 weeks. just make sure you drink plenty of water and if your worried wear flight socks to stop your legs and feet swelling

BlueBug45 · 11/06/2018 11:16

Yep flew at 14 weeks and 27 weeks within Europe. No big deal if you haven't been informed you are high risk.

PotteringAlong · 11/06/2018 11:18

Yup. I flew twice with my first pregnancy. Didn’t cross my mind it was a problem.

MeadowHay · 11/06/2018 14:16

There's nothing inherently more dangerous about flying when pregnant than flying when not pregnant assuming you're low-risk. I flew at about 28 weeks and it was fine, didn't cross my mind to be concerned (especially as it was a very short flight).

I flew at least 20 times in my first pregnancy (I was commuting between here and Milan). I’m 11 weeks now and flying in 3 weeks. It’s fine,

SoyDora · 11/06/2018 16:37

Oops posted too soon! I was going to say just make sure you stay hydrated.

mum2boys2010 · 11/06/2018 19:51

Thank you ladies. You have all made me feel so much better, I was worried that it might not be good for my baby. But I feel loads better now thank you again! 😘

I'm flying when 31 weeks pregnant to Berlin in just over a week. Although a short flight I'll wear the stockings just to put my mind at ease and be sure to drink plenty of fluids.

Clarashan · 12/06/2018 16:49

Last night week I flew from Australia (17.5 in the air) at 21 weeks with no problem only had just over an hour in dubai. Just stretch your legs as much as you can if you feel you need too

jeanzbeanz · 12/06/2018 17:04

There's a chapter on this in Expecting Better which clearly explains that a few flights pose absolutely no risk

mum2boys2010 · 19/06/2018 07:28

I survived my trip away lol. Flight was fine, only problem I had was on my last day I came down with a water infection 😞! I'm at home now relaxing and recovering lol. Xxxxx
