I’m purchasing a bath thermometer but the reviews online are so conflicting depending on what website your on. Anybody any experience with tommee tippee closer to nature thermometer or Phillips Avent bath and room thermometer, I’m torn between the two

I just bought a duck one from Amazon I think! Baby 8mo now and never had a problem.

BertieBotts · 11/06/2018 09:37

Any, even the cheap ones are fine. There's nothing on the expensive ones which makes them any better.

You can also check the bath temperature with your elbow. When it feels neither hot nor cold it's just right.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 11/06/2018 09:39

Elbow for the bath & Gro egg in the bedroom & we had that long before baby to stop us arguing over the temperature in the bedroom

dueanotherchange · 11/06/2018 09:41

I always just used my elbow. If you put it in and you can't really feel the water, it's the right temperature. I think that's better than any thermometer. Mine are 6 & 5 and I still use my elbow!

Almostthere15 · 11/06/2018 10:40

I have the Phillips one and liked it. Although my dd disagreed as she always wanted it hotter than the recommended!

GummyGoddess · 11/06/2018 10:42

They were useless for us. Dc hates that water temperature and likes it really warm! We were just using one of the card ones someone gave us and feeling the water with elbows.

Kidssendingmenuts · 11/06/2018 10:44

I got the advent flower one which they can play with when they get older. Don't be overly worried though you'll know if it's too hot. X

Noloudnoises · 11/06/2018 11:01

Bit of a waste of money I'd say. I used a proper thermometer like one you would put under the tongue. Then 'elbowed' the water, got a feel for it and forever more you just know the temperature on instinct.

My baby and a couple of others I know liked to have the bath warmer than the recommended temp anyway. I promise you this is one thing you really don't need to worry about.

ScattyCharly · 11/06/2018 11:03

Just use your elbow, much better and cheaper

welshweasel · 11/06/2018 11:07

I had no idea this was even a thing! Just feel the water temperature with your hand before you put the child in, like you would with your own bath surely.

lostinsunshine · 11/06/2018 12:01

A cheap duck one would be fine. I don't have proper sensation in my hands and genuinely couldn't feel too hot or too cold for my baby. Who is now 11. DH's not got those problems. Between us we worked it out with no problems. Save the money and buy something else.

Thanks everyone think I’m going for the Phillips not going to break the bank at Ā£9.99. I spend the majority of my time between my home in turkey and the U.K. so my perception of temperature is completely unreliable now for me a thermometer is the best bet xx

I got a health kit from Mothercarewhich had one in, it was quite cheap and had other useful bits in like brushes and scissors which I don't need yet but will eventually

Pebblespony · 11/06/2018 13:04

Use the avent flower one. Found it good. Also used it as a room temp monitor.

lostinsunshine · 11/06/2018 13:36

Op, do what works for you. Get what you need to get to make your life easier. Just be mindful of your budget. New babies are expensive.

MeadowHay · 11/06/2018 14:08

We have bought one that is like a turtle, DH got it from Amazon. I'm 39 weeks but no baby yet so haven't used it yet!

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/06/2018 14:18

OP if you can find it there is a hilarious thread about the gro egg and how very irritating it is! It was ages ago now.

EeekPreggoAgain · 11/06/2018 17:15

I had the Phillips one that I said the shape of a flower and i swear it wasn’t accurate. The water always seemed hotter than it was suggesting. After 7 months the middle seemed to leak water and it fogged up and broke. Honestly, I was annoyed about people saying use your elbow when I was buying one as I thought ā€œno thanks I don’t trust my elbow!ā€ But with hindsight I won’t be getting a replacement for baby no2. If you put your hand in and you can’t really feel the water that’s fine. Plus, my daughter likes quite cool water so I think each baby has a preference.

EeekPreggoAgain · 11/06/2018 17:16

That is in* nothing about ā€œI saidā€!!
