Quick question: Is it normal to feel heavy pressure down low at 30 weeks?

To clarify, I don't mean in my external bits (I've heard such heaviness can be varicose veins) but low in my pelvis, like where you would get period pain. I know baby is head down as I had a scan today but suddenly feels quite pressurised like he's gotten lower. I'm probably being totally paranoid as it's been a long day.

Anyone else getting/had this? is it normal or am I being a big hypochondriac?

Little bit too long ago for me to remember properly but I do remember feeling lots of strange pains in places i didn't expect. As you say he probably has gone lower, maybe a growth spurt too so maximising on all the room!

it's normal to feel all sorts of things at 30 weeks!

I do seem to rmember something along the lines of what you're talking about. plus it was around that time that ds1 and 2 would turn, and cause excrutiating, contraction like pain.

i'm sure an expert will be along in a minute though.

Bananabump - is it pressure or pain? Does any particular activity or movement make it worse? I'm no expert, but I experienced SPD in pregnancy and if you are unfortunate to get this then it's best you know as soon as possible so you can manage it as best you can.

bananabump · 21/05/2007 22:38

Ooh I have spd too, usually mild unless I've walked for a few hours. This doesn't feel like spd, there's no pain it just feels heavy. It's all the time not just when I move.

Bananabump... I am 30+3 and have exactly the feeling you describe. A pressure accompanied by intermittent little cramps low in my pelvis. My midwife told me thats its just baby's head lowering that causes the sensation...that with the increased weight gain. Its blimmin stressful this pregnancy lark!!

Chooster · 22/05/2007 12:42

Same here - am 31+3 and have had a really dragging / heavy feeling for a couple of weeks. Almost like he might fall out!

DivaSkyChick · 22/05/2007 12:49

Me too at 30 + 4!

I thought that meant I might give birth a little early but if we're all experiencing the same thing, I guess it's just normal.

Damn.

bananabump- I get alot of pressure and some movement now and again, right down feels like in the birth canal to me, feels uncomfortable sometimes to walk and move as really feel like something is low low down. LO keeps going up and down and round and round. I am 32+2

seamonster · 22/05/2007 13:41

I got a lot of pressure around then as well with no3, I felt like I had to walk like John Wayne! In the end she was born at 39 weeks but I have to admit I had an emergency bag packed really early just in case. Why not phone your midwife if you are concerned?

bananabump · 22/05/2007 13:45

Hi all, thanks a lot for reassuring me!

I spoke to my consultant today and mentioned it but he said it's normal to feel different aches, pains and bits of pressure as you get further along, so you were all right!

Wow! So reassuring that there are loads of us out there feeling the same! Was panicking I was going to give birth early.
Thank you for asking the question Bananabump!

I've been feeling something similar (bowling ball resting on my cervix I called it) but that was when the twins were both head down - now one's breech all I get is the odd thwack to the bladder and the heaviness has subsided.
Probably your lo's head.
