Just that really / looking for recommendations for a baby sling / carrier. Any of you had any success stories? Don't want to spend a fortune but after something that comes recommended?!

Following this with interest, I've looked into different types and it's starting to make my head spin

Sling libraries are awesome - find your nearest and that will allow you to try several - you may find that what baby likes isn’t the same as what you liked in abstract, we found that with DD, so being able to rent a couple of different slings for a few weeks was really helpful to get it just right. What worked well for us was a stretchy wrap (either Boba wrap or Ama wrap) for the first few months, they are super easy to tie once you have done it a couple of times, then once baby has decent head control a connecta is excellent. I am still using the connecta for DD (age 2.5) now, for a back carry if she gets tired on a long walk and I have DS in the pram.

So - my recommendation is try before you buy but a stretchy wrap and a connecta would be a really good starting point for what to try.

Agree with Poppy - get a stretchy before baby arrives for the first few weeks, then go to a sling library to try a few options and see what suits you.

Its so variable; I found ds1 very hard to carry till he was older as he was very rigid and stiff; ds2 has taken to slings well early on and is a true squish.

I felt confident slinging with ds1 till I had him via emcs and couldn't stand any pressure anywhere near my tummy. Then when I could he screamed as was so nosy he just wanted to hang off my shoulder. I also found I hated wraps and liked buckles and Mei tais through extensive sling library exploring! The boba 3G though lasted a loooong time and Dh used it a lot too - better really after about 4 mo though the 4G seems better for a baby now. Many like ergos and connectas with babies too.

Elcs has been easier recovery and I have found I can wrap suddenly with ds2, though the Mei tai is now winning as I can put him down asleep in it.

A good starter stretchy is a close caboo and they can be sold on. It's semi wrap, semi structured. Also a bit better on the tummy if you have an emcs.

So perhaps start with a stretchy (caboo or a stretchy wrap) then take it from there via libraries.

Try & get to your local sling library, Facebook is quite handy in finding the groups.

I used a Caboo close to me in the beginning then switched to Ergo 360 when they got too heavy.

Is definately say get to a sling library. Me and my husband both baby wear but wear very different carriers. I use my Moby baby wrap which is a stretchy carrier that you tie round. It looks just like a super long piece of fabric but I have skinny shoulders and large books so can be tied perfectly to me.

My husband likes the Tomy baby carrier as its sturdier on his back and he just like how easy he finds it. Id say go to a sling library and try a few to see what type suits you. Carriers can be expensive so before you shell out for one try as many as you possibly can.
