Safe to eat at Pret?

I know you shouldn't eat cold meats, but are the salads and non-meat sandwiches safe? I'm worried about cleanliness, freshness, etc. Will you eat prepared foods that haven't been heated through at other shops?

Why can't you eat cold meats when pregnant?

PurpleDaisies · 10/06/2018 14:45

You can eat cold meat. Confused

Pret is fine.

HeyDolly · 10/06/2018 14:45

Yes, you can eat at Pret whilst pregnant Confused

Have you posted before OP about food anxieties?

MrsCD67 · 10/06/2018 14:47

Seriously?Hmm

InDreamland · 10/06/2018 14:49

I hope you can still eat Pret as I have had loads of their food (before the after finding out I was pg). Pretty sure you can eat cold meats? I hope so because again I've had loads .........plus had tonnes of mayo! Blush

Educate yourself OP, the information is easily available.

FASH84 · 10/06/2018 14:49

You can eat cold meats just not raw ones eg prosciutto or chorizo uncooked

Celebelly · 10/06/2018 14:51

Cold meat is absolutely fine to eat - what you mean is uncooked deli meats like salami, chorizo (and these are fine to eat if you cook them) as they are only cured. But cold chicken, ham, etc. all fine.

Creatureofthenight · 10/06/2018 14:51

Some people choose to avoid certain deli meats like salami, but a chicken salad sandwich is not going to do you any harm.
I was not any more or less concerned about cleanliness/freshness when I was pregnant, I more or less ate the same as usual (keeping to NHS guidelines). Wouldn’t have given a second thought to eating a Pret sarnie.

Celebelly · 10/06/2018 14:52

Also think about how many times in life you've become ill from eating a shop-bought sandwich. It's no more likely to happen now you're pregnant. The cleanliness standards for where these are made are likely to be higher than your own house.

pastabest · 10/06/2018 14:52

Of course you can eat cold meats and sandwiches. What else have you randomly decided you can't eat?

you must be absolutely ravenous!

PalePinkSwan · 10/06/2018 14:54

I ate loads of Pret through two healthy pregnancies. Really wouldn’t worry about this.

I would be less likely to eat from a dodgy looking kebab shop while pregnant, in case of food poisoning, but otherwise no issue with eating prepared food.

reluctantlondoner · 10/06/2018 14:54

I totally understand the worry in pregnancy, especially early on, but Pret is absolutely fine, honestly! I wouldn't eat in some absolutely grim looking truck stop type cafe, but then I wouldn't choose to eat there pregnant or not pregnant!

wombats · 10/06/2018 15:05

No need to be rude, I'm a first time mum pregnant after several losses so somewhat nervous about potential to hurt baby. I've been eating loads, just preparing it myself and wondering about hygiene whilst out. Defo will not have dodgy kebab but sounds like Pret is safe. Heard Mr Whippy should be avoided though, for hygiene reasons as well.

Anything you're concerned about, check NHS advice first. People will tell you all sorts of bollocks about what you can and can't eat, but the NHS guidelines are all you need. And yes, you're good to have a mr whippy!

NarniaSha · 10/06/2018 15:24

19 weeks and I've eaten loads of chorizo Confused oops!

pastabest · 10/06/2018 15:28

Your anxiety is absolutely understandable but you will make yourself absolutely miserable until the baby is born if you google everything.

There is loads of absolute rubbish out there about what you can and can't do in pregnancy, if you are concerned check the NHS stuff to see what they say and leave it at that.

Congratulations on your pregnancy Flowers

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 10/06/2018 15:33

Pret sells some of the most freshest, tastiest things out of all the chains. For a quick go-to lunch when you're out & about its probably one of the best places you can go especially if hygiene is such a priority. If i remember rightly, all food is prepared fresh on site every day?

bookworm14 · 10/06/2018 15:34

Read this book. www.amazon.com/dp/1594204756/?tag=mumsnetforum-21

wombats · 10/06/2018 15:34

Thank you siol and pasta. Reckon I'm more worried about hygiene and cleanliness in food preparation than the actual contents of the food. (Though admittedly and clearly a bit anxious too Blush)

And thank you waves, sounds like they are a safe choice whilst out. Bookworm, thank you, will have a look.

I second the book Expecting Better. It really helps you understand everything and helped me move past some of my anxiety. Good luck OP!

Stephisaur · 10/06/2018 17:24

@wombats my midwife said Mr Whippy is fine as the vans now have to be inspected like a restaurant. I’ve had 2 so far this pregnancy with no ill effects :) x
