so long story short, had so many problems in this pregnancy. the lastest is high blood pressure. so last week we went into day assessment because i was cramping alot, ended up showing i had higher blood pressure and had blood test and my liver eymines were slightly higher than normal, they managed to get bp down to my normal range, got sent home and told to come back on friday, so i did and blood pressure was fine, but protein in urine, had another blood test, liver function still slightly higher, anyway been monitired all last week and this week and yesrerday woke up with bad headache so rang up and went in again, blood pressure was highest its ever been but they said it was fine :S so had normal checks ect, sent home and they said if headache persists then call up in the evening. so headache didnt go went in and had to stay over night being monitored, got sent home today at 2 with the same thing said if it gets worse call us, my headache is still hurting and feet little puffy. im going to sleep on it but in the morning if im still the same ill be going in. at this stage can i ask to be induced? im 38 weeks on sunday and baby is already fully engaged

I honestly don't know if they do sometimes but when I asked for severe hyperemesis (causing ketoacidosis) they said no :-(

They won't induce you unless you go post dates and there is reason to believe that baby is better out than in.

Induction is not a value neutral activity. It has risks and increases the rate of some complications. It's not done for convenience, only for medical reasons. If your HCPs have any reason to believe there is a risk to your baby, believe me, they'll suggest it themselves.

*That should be you go post dates OR there is a reason to believe baby is better out.

Hiya

I'm surprised you haven't been seen by a consultant even as a double check!

You could always request an urgent appointment and be seen.

(I'm consultant led and have been induced with no issues)

PIH in first pregnancy. Ignored when I self referred at 30 weeks with BP of 150/95 consistently. Dragged in for induction at 38 weeks when they realised it was getting out of control and I had proteinuria.

Hideous time after birth on no less than 6 types of blood pressure meds trying to bring it back down. Weeks in and out of hospital for no good reason and completely trashed bonding with DD. Recieving counselling 17 months on to prevent a repeat as now 34 weeks with baby 2.

Self referred again at 28 weeks with creeping BP. Two weeks monitoring at home to confirm own diagnosis and put straight on Labetalol. BP is 130/70, feel great, regular scans as baby big and they are keeping an eye on placenta. Will be induced again post 37 weeks.

If you are concerned, go back and beat the door down until someone agrees to at least monitor you to confirm PIH over the next couple of weeks. You might manage to avoid the experience I had.

Seems like first time mums are not listened to as a matter of routine. Sweeping generalisation there, but has been my experience. Much better treatment this second pregnancy.

I'd call and get checked again. Perhaps ask someone to go through thresholds and options with you. I was 39+2 with DC1 when I had a routine consultant appointment and they found my BP was suddenly 180/110 after weeks of fluctuation. I was walked straight across to labour ward HDU and induced. I honestly wish they'd gone straight to CS so perhaps go through all options with them and remember you can say no.

Mammyofasuperbaby · 09/06/2018 07:44

They should be talking to you about the possibility of induction unless they think there isn't a reason too and baby is safer in than out and you health isn't at risk.
Just a note my Sil had mild pre eclampsia ( controlled with meds) and she was induced at 38 weeks. I had severe sudden on set pre eclampsia at 32 weeks was supposed to be induced at 33 weeks but had emcs instead when BP went to 220/180

Bluebirdsky · 09/06/2018 08:35

You can always ask, they won't necessarily say yes but there is never any harm in asking if it's what you really want and I am sure they will come to an agreement with you for some sort of plan.
Just be aware that induction comes with its own risks and complications and the doctors will be obliged to inform you of these before any decisions can be made. Induction can take a long time if you aren't really ready to labour (unfortunately an engaged head doesn't mean you are ready) and can ultimately end in a CS if it fails, not trying to put you off but just make you aware of the reasons why they don't just do it for anyone who is having difficulties towards the end.

Havetothink · 09/06/2018 11:38

I agree that it can't hurt to ask, they might be weighing it up anyway as you're full term.

TammySwansonTwo · 09/06/2018 11:56

But there is medical reason. OP is heading towards pre-eclampsia and they don’t seem to be doing much of anything to reduce those risks. Have you seen a consultant at when in ANDA? Next time you are in I’d insist on speaking to someone.

Not sure whereabouts you live however in my area we have a midwife counsellor - I have seen her for this pregnancy as my first birth they term as 'traumatic' (emergency cerserean) I got to discuss all options with her before seeing consultant, consultant went over the discussion and I am being induced at 38 weeks (although being seen at 37 weeks to check all ok) so that I can be monitored more easily, try asking if you have a midwife counsellor and could you speak with them?! X

Ps they don't just see women who are having another baby, they also see first time mum's - a friend of mine saw as suffering with anxiety around the birth x

Mrshand123 · 10/06/2018 14:25

Thanks everyone for your comments, we went in hospital again yesterday. Baby wasn't moving much but ended up her just being sleepy, anyway I had another blood test and the results were pretty much the same. I've got an appointment tomorrow for another blood pressure check and blood test. So Im going to try and see what's going on. Hopefully they can give us some more information about it all
