Please ring your out of hours obstetric unit, any reduction or change in movement especially of none all day needs assessed. You are still very early at 21 weeks so still places for baby to hide / postioning of placenta etc but you would be better going to get checked out .

Markygirl1995 · 07/06/2018 20:41

@Balancingact12 have called in there's not much they'd be able to do this early. Offered me to go to go in a heat the heart wouldn't be any point as I have an appointment tomorrow. Usually get movement in bed so if I haven't got anything tonight I'll ask tomorrow

I find that reaction a bit odd - my antenatal assessment unit always insists you come in. The first time I called it was because I hadn't felt movement for two days since the second time I'd felt it, even though there was a 2-3 day gap between the first and the second time I'd felt anything. I also went in at their insistence when I had a bad bout of anxiety and had convinced myself I hadn't felt the baby for days, even though I knew I had deep down, and actually told them this. That might have been because I was crying on the phone too though...

I know it's not necessarily helpful for me to post this, as you have been in touch with the health professionals and are following their advice. Just wanted to let you know, in case you're not happy - it works differently in other places, so please call again if you're not happy.

She's 21 weeks!!!! Many people haven't felt movement at all at that stage! The Count the Kicks info makes clear that it's something you do from the third trimester.....

NCPuffin · 07/06/2018 21:30

Have just realised they did tell you to come in to listen to the heartbeat. I would. They might not be able to do anything, but it would make me feel a lot better knowing that everything was OK (in all likelihood it is)

NCPuffin · 07/06/2018 21:33

@chloechloe, that is simply not true - all information I have been given, in print and verbally, emphasises the importance of getting checked if movement is reduced! No one has ever mentioned that this is done from third trimester onwards - although they are limited in what they can do. And even if the baby is not yet viable, would you not want to know if something was wrong?

Please don't peddle such dangerous nonsense!

NCPuffin · 07/06/2018 21:36

KicksCount @chloechloe, tell me where it says movement only matters from the third trimester???

I'm having the same: 22 weeks. Saw my midwife today for an existing appointment who said at this point, the baby still has lots of room and she wouldn't even worry if she couldn't pick up a heartbeat on the doppler.

I've also read that until you've 26/26 weeks there's no real pattern to movement, so I wouldn't worry unduly. I definitely won't be going in to have them check, much as part of me would love to, because there's literally nothing they can do at this point anyway and its a bit pointless since its most likely just the baby moving to a further-away position.

So try not to worry: this seems to be another perfectly normal thing designed to make us feel a bit stressed.

reddressblueshoes · 07/06/2018 22:04

Sorry - that should be 26-28 weeks for a pattern, not 26-26!

NCPuffin · 07/06/2018 22:07

That's an American site, not that of KicksCount, which works with the NHS and is referenced on the NHS leaflet about baby movements midwives hand out.

KicksCount is no longer called Count the Kicks (in the UK at least - not sure if there is any link to the site you've referenced), partly because the name was considered misleading by midwives.

So advice in the US is different, but the fact is that Kicks Count - which you refer to in your first post, but which is different from Count the Kicks in the US - does not mention the third trimester anywhere. Kicks Count is the one linked to the NHS, I know who I would trust...

NCPuffin · 07/06/2018 22:10

Apologies @chloechloe - you never talked about Kicks Count, only about Count the Kicks. The rest of my points remain valid though...

I also agree with the advice not to worry unduly, but I would always follow midwife advice, personally.

leannejade · 07/06/2018 22:18

Have a sugary drink and lie on your left side for half an hour with no distractions, that's what my midwife advised. Sometimes you don't even notice the baby moving because you're caught up in life!

When I had my 20 week scan my baby was doing flips on the screen but I felt NOTHING, it could be now they're positioned.

If you're worried, call triage again.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 07/06/2018 22:32

Honestly there's not a lot they can do at 21 weeks apart from listen in. They just run away from monitoring until after 30 weeks & longer in the case of my Houdini DC. Do go in if you think it will help ease your mind though

NCPuffin it's not that they don't matter before the 3rd tri but more that a pattern is not really established yet.

Amy1996 · 07/06/2018 22:34

I'm 20+5 And have hardly felt any movement at all yet, they say to not be concerned under 24 weeks
