GP Pregnancy Test

Hello,

After trying for 5 years, I've just found out I'm pregnant. GrinGrinI've already done a blood test with my IVF clinic and they have confirmed the pregnancy.

I have a GP appointment today so I can get assigned to a midwife.

Just wanted to check, will they test me again and will it be a urine test that I will have to do at my GP? And will I get the results straight away?

I only received a call from clinic on Monday to say I was pregnant, just being paranoid and what it double confirmed Grin

I was never tested again at the doctors with either of my pregnancies.

Congratulations Flowers

Thank you Smile

Oh ok, so they just go ahead and assign a midwife?

I think I might have to go and get a test just so I can see the results

Yes they normally get you on the system for your booking in appointment with the midwife at around 8 weeks Smile

Ok great thanks so much for confirming Smile

Every GP surgery seems to be different in terms of what they do but if you have already had a blood test at the clinic not would seem silly for them to test you again.

*it

In that case I hope they do test me again just so I can see it Grin. It just feels odd that the clinic has called me to say it was positive but I just haven't seen the results with my own eyes Confused

You can buy tests from any supermarket or chemists. 2 for £1 in Poundland or home doodahs. You can buy 20 for a couple of quid from Amazon or ebay. You could test and test and test Grin

I've been pg 4 times and no GP has ever confirmed it. They just take your word for it and refer on to the midwife.

Congratulations! You must be thrilled.

My GP just looked at me with a 'so what?' face on and said I needed to make a booking in appointment with the midwife via reception. Was very deflating. Hope yours is better. Congratulations! Smile

You can always ask them to do another test there for you if they don't t offer first.

Nichola2310 · 07/06/2018 10:35

My GP asked if I’d like her to do a test, I said yes but my DH still wasn’t convinced! She did a dip test in front of me, which was positive, but said the test that I had done at home was more reliable.

Our GP wouldn't even see you, you have to self refer straight to the midwife, who sees you at 8 weeks for a pre-booking appointment and 10 weeks for a booking appointment.

It may be different for IVF, I'm not sure, I don't think they'll retest though so I'd just go and get your own test and do it that way.

Congratulations Thanks

I didn't even see a GP, they just referred me straight to the midwife. Having said that, I had to take the test at home using a HPT my IVF clinic had given me. They also did a viability scan at 7/8 weeks before discharging me to my own GP/midwife.

BlueBug45 · 07/06/2018 11:30

I just went online to my chosen hospital and self-referred.

However I didn't know you did as it is apparently a newish system, so I had to ask the GPs receptionist who getting information out of was like drawing blood from a stone.

poodle24 · 07/06/2018 12:01

Right I'm on my way to the shops to get a test Grin
