Difficult Miscarriage

Hi all,

I have had a few miscarriages in the past so when I found out that I was pregnant this time I was told to be checked at the EPU.

My pregnancy was going really well. I had to be checked every 2 weeks at the EPU with internal exams to see how my pregnancy was progressing.

At my 3rd internal exam with this pregnancy at 9 weeks, they could not detect a heartbeat. Me and my husband was left devastated. They wanted me to go back again in 2 weeks to check whether they could detect any signs of a heartbeat. I went back in 2 weeks for another internal exam to confirm our fears there was no heartbeat. Unfortunately, because the baby was too small, the midwife could not class it as a failed miscarriage. I was told that another appointment in 2 weeks would be needed. The midwife informed me that if I had not miscarried naturally that I would be given the tablet or a procedure would be needed.

A week later and I did start to bleed naturally.

I kept my appointment the following week to check that everything had passed, but unfortunately they informed that I still had 20%ish of it left. It was travelling down my uterus, so they ensured me I would pass it soon. They did not want to give me the procedure at this point, due to the little amount I had left, which I completely understood and didn't really want the procedure if I didn't need it.

I was made another appointment in two weeks again. I was sure this time I had passed everything, as I had heavy bleeding and passing very big clots 5 days previously. I was still bleeding, but only slightly.
Once again though, I was told I still had not passed everything. This time it had travelled down my uterus and I had a large amount of blood and a very big clot in my cervix.
The midwife was very lovely and sympathetic of how long it was taking to pass and how many times I have had to go back in for scans.
She informed me that it would pass that day or the following, due to its position. She did ask if I was in pain, as a lot of women find it difficult to sit once it had travelled down to the cervix. I was completely fine, a little discomfort, but I'm used to a lot of pain anyway due to a spinal fusion I had a couple of years previously.

I've had a small amount of bleeding since seeing the midwife, but not very much so unsure if everything has passed yet.

I've been bleeding for nearly 5 weeks now.

I've had three previous miscarriages and they all have happened very fast and I have not bleed as much and for as long as this time.

It has been 9 weeks since I've been told there was no heartbeat and I can just not move passed it until I have passed everything.

Has anyone any advice?

Many thanks xx

I'm sorry I've no advice, but just wanted to say that I'm sorry for all you're going through xxx Flowers

I'm really sorry, that must be horribly distressing and I'm sure you just want it all over with now. Have they offered you medical management? It might be a halfway house between an ERPC and more waiting for it to pass.
Have you joined the recurrent miscarraiage threads? You'll get a lot of support there. I had 4 losses all at 8-10 weeks and eventually got my rainbow baby after treatment from Prof Quenby at Coventry. I hope this is the last time you ever have to go through it. Flowers

Thanks so much for replying. No they haven't offered me any medical management. I'm unfamiliar with it, does it help?

This really gives me hope that I might be able to have a child one day. Thank you.

Really appreciate your message. Xx
