Baby blocking me up?

Sorry it's not the best subject I know. I'm 22+3 weeks and I haven't gone (no.2) since Saturday and I'm a bit worried. I'm not uncomfortable with it (which I feel would be more normal) but just nothing is going through. After a few days not going last week I was very ill and spent a night/morning staying near the toilet, I put it down to food poisoning but I'm now worried it wasn't and I could be in for a repeat if nothing moves along? I'm eating fruit and things with fibre, I walk regularly, it just feels like the baby is blocking the way and instead of it going anywhere I just stretch until no more food will fit (this is 2nd baby). I tried positions to try and shift the baby but to no avail. Anyone else had this? Is it normal pregnancy constipation? I don't know whether to buy a shed load of laxatives or call the doctor, never had this problem before.

I had constipation constantly in pregnancy, in the end I used to make up a prune puree (just simmer a tin of pitted prunes in a pan with some water for fifteen mins, then when cool blend) and have a glass of it before bed every night. It really helped me. You can get lactulose solution from the docs, it never worked on me though, just gave me a lot of wind Blush and nothing else

Constipation in pregnancy is caused by an increase in progesterone, which makes your smooth muscle sluggish. Therefore, things aren't moving through efficiently. Definitely see your GP to get something to help before you do become uncomfortableSmile

I was fine up until a couple weeks ago, now I'm constipated soooo badly. Was that bad last week that my back was killing me, was hurting so much and I had cramping with it, I was convinced baby was on it's way but then I 'went' and everything stopped 😂 I would go to my gp if I were you before you get really poorly.

2 kiwis every night tends to keep things regular here.

PinkHeart5914 · 07/06/2018 10:44

Black coffee, 1-2 cups normally does the trick.

Orange juice, helps as well in my experience

It’s unfortunately a normal pregnancy symptom many of us ladies suffer

Nip to the chemist and get some Laxido- it's a stool softner that's safe in pregnancy and works really well. It's NOT a laxative so follow the instructions for constipation and it will liquify any logs and help them pass much easier.

Do NOT force yourself to poo or you will end up really sore.

Pebblespony · 07/06/2018 10:49

Also, chronic constipation is bad for your pelvic floor and that's having a hard enough time as it is. (I have a prolapse so pelvic floor is a pet subject of mine Grin)

If fresh fruit isn't working dried fruit will.

Coffee and orange juice is proven not to work for everyone btw.

Glycerin suppositories

IncyWincyMouseRat · 07/06/2018 11:37

You don’t need to see the GP, a pharmacist can easily sort you out. Lactulose and glycerin suppositories would probably do the job just fine.

Noloudnoises · 07/06/2018 12:15

Lactulose or movicol from pharmacy.

And suppositories galore!

All fine to use.

Justcantgo · 07/06/2018 13:39

Thanks everyone, I'll definitely try some of those suggestions

Daily diet of flax seeds with breakfast is the only way I've found to keep me moving!

Pebblespony · 07/06/2018 14:51

Word of warning. If you take something like milled flaxseed, you have to drink a lot of water or they could make the problem worse. Learned that the hard way (literally).

twobambinos · 07/06/2018 17:52

Lying on your left side aids digestion too I think. Apples work for me and lots of water. I have been suffering a bit the last week or two and I'm 24 weeks. Hope it eases soon for your op

M5tothesouthwest · 07/06/2018 18:04

I went 3 weeks (!!) without a poo when I was pregnant with DC1. Pop along to the pharmacy and get something to help.

Justcantgo · 07/06/2018 18:57

M5 3 weeks! I'd have exploded by then.

Thanks all, got some fybogel from the pharmacy but my system beat me to it before I could take any (had the sachet and water ready to go). Have been downing gallons of water and fruit all day so perhaps that helped. Might take something sooner next time Smile
