new european legislation affecting placement of dental amalgam fillingss

I would like to make all women aware of a new change of legislation regarding the placement of mercury based dental amalgam fillings.

From 1st July 2018, UK dentists will, in most circumstances, be prohibited from placing "silver fillings" containing mercury into (i) a woman who is pregnant and (ii) a woman who is breast feeding.

Please make sure your dentist knows if you fit into one of these categories. The legislation also prohibits placement of such fillings into (iii) children's milk teeth and (iv) children under the age of 15.

Mercury is the most poisonous non radioactive element known to humanity and can cause great harm to people. There is no safe level of exposure.

Wow - I didn't know it was still legal!

Sadly, mercury based dental amalgam is still legal and worse, the British Dental Association (aided and abetted by the Dept of Health) cannot see why they should stop using it. They have resisted the European Union's attempts to limit mercury use at every opportunity.

Great I had some before I knew I was pregnant, very worried now

Oj,.dear, I had one while I was still breastfeeding. She was past a year and not feeding that often but it still worries me.

My message is to try not to have any more of this type of filling placed into your mouth as you go through life. The more mercury fillings you have, the more mercury is released (when you eat, drink, brush your teeth) for absorption into the body. Please also let your friends and family know about this issue such that they have some sort of CHOICE as to what materials they allow a dentist to insert.
