I thought some smellies or something. What do you think? Any other suggestions? Only want to spend about £15 on her as also buying baby something but the mums usually get forgotten....

All help appreciated!

yes good idea. something completely frivolous and luxurious,

bath salts and smelly stuff.

what a nice person you are.

Taylormama · 21/05/2007 11:06

get her a huge box of choccies
magazines
and a mini bottle of champagne

nuttyaboutchoceggs · 21/05/2007 11:07

hi i got my cousin a bottle of wine and some chocolates or you could get something from the body shop

MrsBadger · 21/05/2007 11:14

or cake
all new mothers should be given cake

maisym · 21/05/2007 11:15

some lovely handcream - all those nappy changes will mean lots of handwashing & dry hands.

lilolilmanchester · 21/05/2007 11:20

if your friend had stitches, she probably won't be able to use bubble bath for a while. Like the idea of handcream. Or perhaps a voucher for a manicure - and if you live locally, offer to look after the baby for an hour while she goes to be pampered.

birdseed · 21/05/2007 11:24

why don't you bake her a cake.
I agree with mrs badger, but think that a homemade one would be the best!

snowleopard · 21/05/2007 11:26

The thing I was happiest to receive straight after the birth was a box of super-posh chocs all for me.

lollypopmax · 21/05/2007 11:27

a handmade voucher for 2hours 'me time' where you will take the baby out for a walk or something and let her get a long bubble bath

skidaddle · 21/05/2007 11:42

or some really lovely pyjamas/dressing gown/slobbing aorund clothes as she will be spending a lot of time in them for the next few weeks...

also maybe cook a nice dinner and take it round so it just needs heating up - this is definitely the best thing anyone did for us

AitchTwoOh · 21/05/2007 11:45

agree with skidaddle, cook up tupperwares full of macaroni, stews, bolognese etc and take that round. you'll be a hero. one friend did that for us and it was heaven-sent.

Uki · 21/05/2007 12:15

A friend gave me a scarf- the long type, it's kinda silky and lovely, it was nice to get something for me, made me feel special.

I like the cake or chocky idea too I love how you say only 15 pounds, converted to Australian dollars (where I am) that's a fortune!!! Your very generous in my language

motherinferior · 21/05/2007 12:19

My best mate brought round organic champagne.

PregnantGrrrl · 21/05/2007 13:14

my mother was the only person to bring me something just for me after DS was born. She brought gin and two kinds of pate. I was most pleased!

Cappuccino · 21/05/2007 13:15

buy a massage

£15 should get you neck back and shoulders if you are not in a city

I buy this for anyone who produces sprog

Princesspowersparkle · 21/05/2007 13:40

Thanks ladies- went to boots at lunch and got a face mask, a foot soak and a foot cream. she has a C section so thanks for the heads up on the bath smellies! Also got her some chocs and will cook her something. Thanks for the great ideas.
