That's what is wrong with me today - what the hell does it all mean??

Leucocytes. No idea about the blood pressure (how many weeks are you?). I had leucocytes in my urine today as well (and sugar ) - it just means you may have a UTI. They took a sample to test - results will be back in a few days.

Twinkie · 11/08/2004 17:23

Oh right - I am 26.5 weeks.

They are going to monitor my blood pressure every week!!

How low is low Twinkie? Low BP is v common in pg, especially early on as your body adapts to the change in blood volume. Mine was 95/55 on Tues at the midwife. Been feeling ok though unlike a month or so ago when I fainted..... cracked my head on a door frame on the way down and then bled everywhere, the poor kiddies(and me) were really upset by mummy lying on the floor unconscious!! Scary stuff!
The leucocytes as Jimjams said could be a uti or you could have offered up a really dehydrated sample. Drink plenty as that will help in either case and blood pressure too. Or there could have been some contamination in the sample.
How do you feel?

honeybunny · 11/08/2004 17:36

Poor you Twinkie, hope everything is ok.

Twinkie · 11/08/2004 17:39

Feel ok - legs really ache sort of painful calves and am very tired at the moment but nothing that I would say is really serious??

It was 90 over 50 something - silly woman have no idea what last digit is!!

I won't worry though if it all is ok - she just did not really explain anything to me thats all!!

leucocytes can also rise as a result of stress - mine are permanently just over the upper limit.

enid · 11/08/2004 19:02

Twinkie, if its any help I had this during my last pg - leucocytes because I was being very sick and therefore dehydrated, and my bp was 80/50! I was told to drink LOTS of water - not just to help the dehydration but also to boost blood volume. Bp hovered at around 90/50 for most of the pg but actually I didn't feel too bad with it.

Was advised not to have epidural though .

Hope you feel better soon.

Hi twinkie. Low blood pressure isn't really bad in and of itself. You just need to be very very careful about standing up too quickly, etc. I (and many members of my family) have very low blood pressure (mine could quite easily be 80/50 when I first get up in the morning). When you get up from lying down, make sure you sit up for a minute or two before standing up. If you are feeling the least bit faint, sit down immediately, even if it means doing so in the middle of the pavement, as it will be better than passing out in the middle of the pavement. After climbing stairs, sit down for a few minutes (I kept a chair at the top of our stairs in our house during my pregnancies for that purpose). Hey, at least it's better than high blood pressure.

Hi Twinkie - don't know about the other stuff but agree with Sofia Ames that low bp is okay. My bp went down to about 90/50 at one point in pg, and nobody was particularly bothered by this. I don't think that protein in the urine in and of itself is worrying - just that if it was in conjunction with high blood pressure this could suggest pre-eclampsia

mears · 12/08/2004 00:48

Twinkie, blood pressure is at it's lowest around about this time of pregnancy due to the relaxation effects of hormones. Protein and leucocytes in the absence of syptoms of urine infection could just be a contaminated sample. There is an increase in vaginal discharge in pregnancy and that can be picked up in the sample. Usually a midstream sample is sent to the lab to confirm infection. Leucocytes + nitrites is usually a sign of infection so everything is probably fine. Try not to worry

Twinkie · 12/08/2004 09:59

Thanks all - feel better about all of this now - have been told to advise midwife if I get any serious headaches for some reason but am now just waiting for results of urine and will be monitored regularly with respect to blood pressure.

Thanks anyway - its so nice to be told everything is fine and normal - I feel a bit of an idiot quizzing the midwife for stuff sometimes!!

why quiz the midwife when you have us?

For the painful calves, try support stockings gruesome I know, but theyreally do help, and the sooner you start to use them the better. You can get knee high ones which are OK to wear under trousers (though not with sandals)

Twinkie · 12/08/2004 14:38

Are you mad woman I have an image to sustain - Support Stockings!!

Actually Twinkie, even Gwynnie wore support hosiery according to Heat.
