Am I pregnant?

It sounds silly being worried so soon but I had unprotected sex with my partner 2 days ago and I've not stopped feeling nauseous and I've been getting some pains in my side and near where my ovaries are. I'm almost 20, how likely is it that I'm pregnant? I just 'feel' like I am, any help and feedback will be appreciated! X

Far too soon to have any symptoms!

SoyDora · 04/06/2018 12:38

Well you could be, but it’s too early for any symptoms. Wait until your period is due then take a test.

Celebelly · 04/06/2018 12:38

However those pains could be ovulation pains which means you would be at the fertile portion of your cycle so there's a chance you could conceive as a result of that sex.

@celebelly this is what I thought as well, I just feel so different and I've completely lost my appetite (and I'm a big foodie!)

@soydora when is the soonest I can take a test as I'm not due for a couple of weeks, I'll probably take more than one to be sure

Well any symptoms you have now would be ovulation symptoms from progesterone, not from pregnancy. You're probably just more aware of them as you are paying more attention. You wouldn't get pregnancy symptoms for about another week at the earliest.

If you've just ovulated or are just about to ovulate then there's a 20% chance you're pregnant (or that an ovum has been fertilised, will successfully implant and will progress to the point where you'll get a positive test).

If you ovulated more than around 4 days ago, or won't ovulate for another week then there's no chance.

Either way, you won't know for a while yet. Get the MAP as soon as possible if you don't want to risk it.

Celebelly · 04/06/2018 12:42

Also you're still in the time period you can take the morning after pill so I'd recommend doing that if a pregnancy isn't desirable.

SoyDora · 04/06/2018 12:43

Well FRER’s can work from 6 days before your missed period but unfortunately a negative then won’t necessarily be a true negative.

SoyDora · 04/06/2018 12:43

And definitely take the MAP.

LittleMissPotatoHead · 04/06/2018 12:44

I'm not looking to avoid the pregnancy, I just don't want to get my hopes up just to end up being disappointed

Also I'm new to this so what does all the abbreviation mean?

OP posts:
SoyDora · 04/06/2018 12:46

Sorry, MAP is the morning after pill and FRER is a First Response pregnancy test.

LittleMissPotatoHead · 04/06/2018 12:48

@soydora thank you, I've been recommended the MAP but I really want a baby

I think it was the fact you said you were ‘worried’ in your OP that made people think it would be an unwelcome pregnancy.
Anyway... 2 days is far too early to be feeling pregnancy symptoms. Inplantation wouldn’t have occurred yet (happens between 7-10 days) so there is nothing to cause symptoms at this point.
Of course you may be pregnant, as you had unprotected intercourse during ovulation. Try a FRER from 6 days before your period is due.
