Your best non-alcoholic drinks and wines please

Lovely MNetters, would be grateful for any and all suggestions of decent non alcoholic beverages please, especiallly ones that aren't too sweet. (Still have 8 months to go!)

So far, I've not found a substitute wine I like, all seem too sugary. But I have enjoyed Fever Tree Tonics (especially the pink one with angoustura bark) and Monte Rosso (a slightly bitter non-alcoholic Italian spritzer from Ocado). Are there any more good suggestions?

I've spotted the So Jennie 'luxury bubbles' in shops too, is that worth it for special occasions? Seems very pricey!

I would second Bee's Knees sparkling white if you can find it, had it at a nice restaurant and have been meaning to buy some.

I've been experimenting with beers and I like Heineken, Bavaria and Erdinger best, in that order. Carling was awful and Cobra not much better. San Miguel and Beck's are ok but I can only stomach two and then I think they are rank! The AF ciders are incredibly sweet, around 45-50g sugar in a 500ml bottle so I try to avoid them especially as I'm worried about gestational diabetes 😬

I've only got 4 months left thankfully. Booze is the only thing I'm really struggling without! X

Finallybreathingout · 03/06/2018 20:39

Bees Knees is also available at Iceland and often in a deal.

I loved Bavaria lager too.

RhiBee29 · 03/06/2018 21:06

Budweiser Prohibition Brew, currently on offer in co-op too.

Tulip7 · 03/06/2018 21:13

Budweiser alcohol free cans are nice. Best of the load I've tried. Not too sweet and if you didn't know there was no alcohol you couldn't tell.

glasshalfsomething · 03/06/2018 21:15

Seedlip for special occasions.

M&S done a sparkling apple juice complete with cork to pop for about £2.50. Perfect for when everyone else is on the fizz!

Bobojangles · 03/06/2018 21:20

Sainsbury's fizzy alcoholic free wine, I find the non-fizzy ones too sweet but the fizzy one is lovely

Rochester's ginger ale, green label stuff you can get it at Holland and Barrett and similar places. has a real luck and tastes "grown up"

RedPandaMama · 03/06/2018 21:20

Waitrose low alcohol (think it's like 0.2% or something) cider is AMAZING. I'm not a beer or cider drinker at all but it's like fizzy apple juice and is just lovely.

lifechangesforever · 03/06/2018 21:30

Alcohol free Kopperberg is lovely - just the same as the alcoholic one!

I also just tend to have tonic and a slice, not much difference to not having the gin in there.

FASH84 · 03/06/2018 22:37

Fentiman's rose lemonade for me, m & s also do a sparkling passion fruit presse that I like mixed with ice and fresh orange juice (like a fancy j2o). I'm struggling with fizz a bit though so sometimes just really cold water with ice and lemon. I've not found a non alcoholic version of an alcoholic drink that hits the spot. I usually drink grey goose , ice, soda and fresh lime so have just been having it without the vodka.

pumpkinpieinmyeye · 03/06/2018 22:47

If you're a fan of Pimm's, I thought this was bloody brilliant! joinclubsoda.co.uk/fake-alcohol-free-pimms/

StargazyDrifter · 03/06/2018 23:00

Oh wow, these are all fantastic suggestions! Thank you very much indeed!

I am partial to both gin and Pimms, so will start there, and will then work my way through the rest of the list.

Also a bit worried about gestational diabetes as have PCOS, so thanks for the tip about the ciders.

Had the Waitrose AF Chardonnay this evening, was called Ebony or something like that, too sweet but ok very very cold and in nice wine glasses. I will try the Sainsbury's and Bees Knees ones instead.

If you go out to ant nice bars with a proper gin menu ask them to make you one with our the gin. The you still get a fancy glass some fruit and other extras with your go rather than just lime and ice. Feels like a proper grown up gin even if you do feel silly saying I'll have the strawberry crush gin, but without the gin please!

Trixie101 · 04/06/2018 08:55

Tesco do low alcoholic gin and tonics in a can (less than 0.5%) they are lovely with a load of ice and a slice of lemon in! Also I quite like the Heineken non alcoholic lagers with lemonade to make a shandy!

wonkylegs · 04/06/2018 09:02

I loved Bundaberg ginger beer when I was pregnant,
also bottlegreen cordials - especially lime & coconut, or plum ones with sparkling water
Or Tessaire cordials (Sainsbury's, Waitrose and sometimes Morrison's have them) passion fruit or grenadine are gorgeous

I drink cordial out of a large wine glass with ice, treat it like a special drink and it will feel more like one.

Summer1986 · 04/06/2018 09:26

Echo falls sparkling AF fusion is lovely for a bit of fizz and not too sweet.

StargazyDrifter · 04/06/2018 23:14

More excellent suggestions! Thank you.

By chance, I tried a glass of the So Jennie AF 'champagne' yesterday, very much like a grown up grape juice but nothing like a champagne. Pleasant enough but I'd save your money, especially if the only option is the rather pricey bottle.

Another recommendation I got today (don't think it's been mentioned here- though apologies if I've missed it) was Rocktails. Apparently a citrus AF spritz that's not too sweet.

Becks Blue gave me awful stomach ache 😞

Murane · 04/06/2018 23:23

They were all too sweet for me. I ended up drinking San Pellegrino and a Virgin Mary at weekends. Also sad to report that after craving a drink for 9 months it hadn't occurred to me that I wouldn't be able to drink while breastfeeding! DS is four months old and I'm still restricted to one half bottle of lager as a Saturday treat. By the time I can drink again I'll have been sober for about a year and a half! :(

tigercub50 · 04/06/2018 23:28

keeponrunning85 does the juniper & tonic taste anything like g & t?

PassiveAgressiveQueen · 04/06/2018 23:30

The new robinsons mint and lime squash mixed with lemonade is lovely

numptynuts · 04/06/2018 23:38

Becks Blue and Bavaria 0.0. It's all we drink now!

Gunpowder · 04/06/2018 23:45

@Murane you can drink while breastfeeding! As long as you aren't co-sleeping and provided you don't get too tipsy to look after your baby.

OP there's a yummy 'English fizz' type cocktail which is muddled mint, cucumber, sugar syrup, dash of bitters and tonic water.

Crodino with ginger ale, ice and a slice of orange is like a non alcoholic Aperol Spritz. Would have thought you could get Crodino cheaper/in smaller quantities.

Gunpowder · 04/06/2018 23:47

Sorry forgot there's lime juice in the English fizz above ^^

HoneyDragon · 04/06/2018 23:56

Cider vinegar in soda water is nice if you want something like dry cider.

keeponrunning85 · 05/06/2018 08:21

tigercub, I would say it is more like one than just straight up tonic. But then I'm 29 weeks so I'm not sure I can quite remember what a gin and tonic tastes like anymore!
