Can you feel flutters as early as 14 weeks in the first pregnancy?

I’m exactly 14 weeks with DC1. Everything I’ve read says that for the first pregnancy, you don’t feel movement until at least 16-20 weeks, but I’m certain I just felt a few flutters. Either that, or it’s just a fart brewing Grin it felt like it was happening in my womb though.

When did you start feeling the first flutterings of movement in your first pregnancies?

I'm 18 weeks and nothing yet. My midwife told me it's extremely unlikely to feel anything before 16 weeks and that's the very earliest I would feel anything. Much more likely to be around 20-24. Still waiting patiently.

I didn’t (anterior placenta) but yes I believe it could be possible. You know your own body, after all.

TenuedeNimes · 02/06/2018 11:37

(I already had a big round belly before I felt a thing!)

Mrscog · 02/06/2018 11:41

Yes I did with DS1!

BertieBotts · 02/06/2018 11:42

Yes. I did with both of mine. With a ten year gap I kind of count DS2 as being a new pregnancy as well as I've forgotten everything.

It is difficult to distinguish from wind at first though because (unless it's just me) you get a lot of extra wind anyway. But I felt like I could work it out from the area and patterns. Wind seemed to move in a more predictable direction whereas baby flutters are much more random.

I am very oversensitive to body sensations in the first place which is why I feel them early I think. I have an anterior placenta this time apparently and it didn't seem to matter even though I was expecting it to take longer.

@BertieBotts I have an anterior placenta and still haven't felt anything yet and am going on for 19 weeks. Lots of pregnant friends who aren't as far gone as me who can feel kicks and flutters. I feel so left out! Can't wait to feel my little one...

BertieBotts · 02/06/2018 12:02

I know it can be common not to feel anything until 24 weeks with the first, so don't worry :)

Mousefunky · 02/06/2018 15:34

Of course it is. I felt DC1 at about 14 weeks. It’s a very distinctive uterus fluttering, not easily mixed up with gas (I don’t get gas there anyway!)

I am 18 weeks with DC4 and been feeling movements since 11 weeks.

BlueBug45 · 02/06/2018 15:42

I felt movement at 14 weeks. I have a posterior placenta.

On my 12 week and 20 weeks scans baby was difficult for the sonographers to scan due to the amount of movement. (At the 20 week scan baby then decided to settle in an awkward place.)

Deloii · 02/06/2018 15:45

@BertieBotts I was a bit sad when she told me that some people with an anterior placenta might not feel much at all and their partners may never feel anything Confused it's one of the parts of pregnancy I look forward to the most!

BergamotMouse · 02/06/2018 15:55

I think I felt my first around 16 weeks but currently pregnant with my second and have felt this one since 12/13 weeks.

princesstiasmum · 02/06/2018 15:59

Yes, I did with my first. I also had an anterior placenta. Felt tons of movement throughout so it doesn't always mean you don't feel as much. Although when I was pregnant with my second I realised how much the movement had been cushioned with my first. The second was agony in later stages.

flumpybear · 02/06/2018 16:13

You get a lot of changes to the gut and a lot of fluttering which can be wind/these vsmc (vascular smooth muscle cell) changes so it may be that .... also the uterus is moving out of the pelvis too - saying that woth my second child at 15+0 I felt him literally all weekend like he was sweeping his arm or leg across my uterus, then after a few days it stopped completely for 10 days .... I was convinced I was going to have another mc but then the washing machine type movements started GrinWink

Wellthisunexpected · 02/06/2018 17:52

I did! Though it was 17 weeks when I was absolutely certain that's what it was.

IncyWincyMouseRat · 03/06/2018 07:14

Yes I started to feel something at around 14 weeks. Was definite it was baby by 16 weeks. You could actually see him jumping around in there by 20 weeks!

Rooroo1012 · 04/06/2018 14:40

Yes definitely. I felt DS at 13 weeks and currently 19 weeks pregnant and felt flutterings at 9 weeks! Yes....9 weeks, it can happen.

I'm very in tune with my body and absolutely knew what the feeling was so early on.
