Swimming in cold(ish) water

I feel a bit silly even asking this question, but just to put my mind at rest... I'm 33.5 weeks pregnant and going to the beach today and even though it is not a very nice day (it may well be raining) I am determined to have my annual British seaside swim. I mentioned this weekend plan excitedly to a couple of people at work who were horrified and said 'but you're pregnant - you can't swim in cold water on a cold day!'. They're mad, right? It won't be that cold - I'm hardly going to get hypothermia so I can't possibly harm myself or baby, right?

You will be fine. I'm in NZ and have been swimming in our unheated pool up til 2 weeks ago - in May so the equivalent I guess of about November in the UK? It was pretty chilly but just quick dips and so nice to be weightless even briefly!

It's fine, those people are crazy.

Enjoy. And chips and tea afterwards is a must! Grin

Of course you can. Enjoy yourself.

Hmm. You can, of course. However, sea temp is only about 10.6 degrees this week. It really is still cold - it will be warmer in August/September after the sun has warmed it up. For comparison, sea swimmer friends are still in wetsuits (and these guys swim every week April - October, they are hardcore swimmers!)

Hmm some people are crazy. But not you.

I had my swim - it was actually an expectedly sunny afternoon, so it was blissful!
