Older child with medical issues

I’m 6+5 currently and wondering if anyone else has an older child with serious medical issues?
My older daughter has multiple congenital conditions, will this be taken into account with my antenatal care?
I mean in terms of monitoring the pregnancy?

Hi @sexnotgender I'm sure it would be. I went for my booking the other day and there were lots of questions about previous pregnancy and health of my DC. Congratulations on your pregnancy Thanks

Sure it will be taken into account. I had a DC who passed away from a serious chd and in this pregnancy I am getting additional scans with fetal cardiology. When you book in with the midwives they should refer you to consultant care as well and perhaps directly to specialist departments depending on the conditions involved. Good luck with your pregnancy xxx

Thank you both, I'm probably over anxious but my daughters conditions were totally missed while I was pregnant and she could have died in labour.

She's got a congenital heart defect and severe scoliosis.

You should definitely get fetal cardiology scans then. One around 20 weeks and depending on hospital perhaps one earlier as you have family history (I had one at 15 weeks and have another at 21weeks). My local fetal cardiology unit (Evelina) have the referral form on their website which you can download and give to your midwife/doctor to fill (needs to be done by them). Might be worth seeing if your local unit have the same or giving your dds cardiologist an email to see what the referral route is? Just to speed things up at booking?

Not sure how easily scoliosis is to pick up antenatally but remember reading that it's not uncommon when a child has a chd. Have you arranged a booking appointment with your midwife yet? Might be worth mentioning your DD upfront so they can do some research before your appointment?

Thank you, I’ll take a look at the website.

I don’t think scoliosis on its own would necessarily be picked up but she has severely malformed vertebrae which absolutely should have been picked up antenatally.

Annoyingly I’m moving house so am in the process of registering with my new practice as I want continuity of care.

Hello. My son has a congenital heart defect, when I was pregnant with my daughter I was referred straight away to our consultant and scanned, luckily my daughter does not have the same condition, but they did do one further scan just to confirm. I was then visited in hospital by the paediatric cardiology team the day my daughter was born and she was checked over. Just make sure you tell your midwife everything and you will be well looked after I am sure.
