Baby measuring big

I'm so worried I have GD.

I'm 26+3 and baby is measuring 28. I will be measured again at 28.

And baby at the moment is breech. Everything has been fine fine and now it seems complicated and scary.

Sad

The measurements are quite vague and just used as a guide really. I measured totally bang in all the way through and ended up with an 11lb baby. The midwives couldn't believe it!

I hope so - it's really worried me.

At 27 weeks I measured 34. Had a growth scan and she’s a decent size but still within normal range. Last week at 30 weeks I measured 33, she’s gone head down which I think changes how you measure.

I’m sure my midwife says 1/2 +/- is fine

Yup welcome to the fear inducing inaccurate science of Fundal Height.

I'm 29+5 and yesterday measured 36 with baby already 3kg.

Asked yesterday for the growth scan thing as I couldn't remember and I'm not worried as consultant led anyway.

Don't panic, don't Google but just wait and see if You get a consultant appointment for checks etc

All of my babies were big. It is genetics, all of the babies in both sides of my family were big. My bump always measured 2-4 weeks above what it should. I had the Gd test each time which came back fine. They were 9 lbs 6, 10 lbs and 10 lbs 3.

Thanks everyone. I've been pretty good and stayed calm throughout this pregnancy but it knocked me this morning.

Haven't you had a GD test or been referred for one?

I had mine at 26 weeks (BMI reasons) and don't have it, but baby is still measuring big. It's really not an exact science though.

I would say to be worried if you're displaying other symptoms of GD, such as thirst and extreme fatigue.

My DD was supposed to be a 10lber but was 7 1/2lbs. I hadnt bought any newborn clothes just 0-3 months because of this so we had to do a quick dash to the shops.

In other words the measurements were all guff.

DD was also breech but turned of her on accord. We found out when we went it to do the baby turning at the hospital.

MeadowHay · 01/06/2018 12:32

Yeah the measurements are not very accurate, I wouldn't worry. If your midwife was concerned at all she would refer you for a growth scan and/or the GTT if you haven't already had that.

MeadowHay · 01/06/2018 12:37

Also breech at 26 means nothing at all, don't worry about that! Babies move about loads still at that gestation. My baby was transverse until almost 35 weeks when it finally decided to go head down. There's no need to worry about that at all yet, in fact I'm surprised you even know what position it's in that early - here the midwives don't formally record baby's position until you're 34 weeks. Actually the NICE guidelines on this say that it shouldn't be done routinely before 36 weeks because it's so inaccurate - www.nice.org.uk/guidance/cg62/chapter/1-Guidance.

Thanks for your messages everyone.
My midwife said she would refer me for a growth scan in two weeks I was still measuring big. The implication was if the scan matched her measurements then I would have a GD test.
I do feel thirsty quite a lot but then it's hot atm?! I have some days where I get very tired and need a sleep but broadly I'm OK.

I have to have a gtt on weds as I've had glucose in my urine and have had an excessive growth between two appointments (3 weeks apart) so I was panicing like mad. I domy have any symptoms of gd and I'm not overweight. friends who have been in the same situation have reassured me that the measurements are totally innacurate. both were measure g big and both ended up having 6lb odd babies so this has put my mind at rest 😊

LisaSimpsonsbff · 02/06/2018 10:29

I think the bump measurement thing is basically nonsense. My bump has been measuring dead-on 50th centile throughout, but a scan a few weeks ago showed baby is by their (also not terribly accurate!) measurements only at 10th centile.
