Lots of thick sanitary pads for first couple of weeks and maybe larger pad/sheets to sleep on, very big comfy knickers 😂

Lots of easy accessible yummy snacks and meals

Kindle app on your phone to read during night feeds? Or Netflix!

I was told to get a waterproof mattress protector in case I'm in bed when my waters break.

Markygirl1995 · 31/05/2018 18:52

That's a good idea! @BlueBug45

Maternity pj Bottoms (I didn’t bother until too late and then they were so comfy).

Paracetamol for early labour pain, and for afterpains. Also ibuprofen in case you get mastitis.

Spare dressing gown for when you get puked on.

Orangedaisy · 31/05/2018 18:56

Thermal mug with lid, also water bottle with sports cap.

Big knickers and chocolate! The amount of times I cried when I was too sore to walk to the shop when DH went back to work Sad

Good friends!
Nipple cream if bf, also nice squaah or cordial.
Meals in the freezer. Or if you can afford it meals on wheels.
Sanitary towels.
Clothes you can bf in. I mostly wore loose tops but bought a couple of bf tops for when out.
Sudoku, kindle, subscription to netflix, good dvd box sets.
Comfy loose clothing you dont mind being seen in.

redexpat · 31/05/2018 19:06

Nice handcream.

Distilled witch hazel in a spray bottle! Sprayed it on maternity pads post birth, when your bits are swollen and sore it is amazing! It’s cooling and soothing.
Also I used Tena pants for the first few days rather than pads. Very comfortable and made me feel less worried about leaking.

AssassinatedBeauty · 31/05/2018 20:36

Lanolin nipple cream like Lansinoh, it's really helpful. Breastpads, I like washable bamboo ones.

Snacks for hospital, maybe a favourite drink. I couldn't eat anything when in labour, but I wish I'd had energy drinks or similar to hand.

Tens machine? Hand held fan - it's always boiling hot in hospitals. Plus you can get night sweats after delivery!

A million tubs of Vanish.

BertieBotts · 31/05/2018 22:22

Waterproof marreess protector

Comfy boob accessible clothes including a couple of nursing tank tops this time if year

Subscription to Netflix and/or Amazon prime

Portable charger for phone/iPad

Maternity pads

Mahoosive cheap pants (disposable or real, doesn't matter)

Hair ties

Big water bottle (750ml)

Tissues

Snacks

Loads of pre prepared or reheatable meals

A copy of What Mothers Do by Naomi Stadlen

Muslin cloths

Breast pads

Absolutely NO apps to track the baby. Except possibly the wonder weeks one.

I think that's all :)

Re the waterproof mattress protector - we got one and it made me sweat buckets so I had to take it off. Instead I bought a pack of those baby bed mats and put two of those under the sheet where my bottom half normally is in bed! Much more comfortable. The rest of the pack came in handy once in labour so I could be kneeling over one/put one on the car seat etc.

Defo agree on maternity pjs - at least the bottoms. I thought I would just buy bigger sizes or wear under my bump and when I finally switched I so wished I’d done it from the start!

Also, while you’ve gotta relax, if there’s anything in the house to do, like tidy out the spare room, paint that door etc (we moved when I was pregnant the first time).... get that shit done! Once the baby arrives that’s it. Two years on and we still have the longest list of diy to do! 😖

Good luck
