Hi,
A very good friend has just confided in me that she’s pregnant. She’s suffering really badly from morning sickness and I was hoping to put together a little parcel to cheer her up and maybe make her feel better- does anyone have any suggestions for things I could include?
Thanks in advance!

I had morning sickness in my pregnancy couldn’t take in any foods ppl suggested ginger crackers and lots of water.id get a nice collection of good movies as all u can do is lie on the sofa and may be one of those big dressing gowns or warm blanket

AlwaysColdHands · 31/05/2018 16:57

That’s really thoughtful. Maybe a few little packets of tempting dry stuff like ginger biscuits or I find salty crackers good. Perhaps a pretty water bottle to encourage her to sip on?

GlamBump · 31/05/2018 16:59

some ginger biscuits, maybe a new cute water bottle? face masks, pj's or a light dressing gown. Anything that you could imagine she would like to just relax with! :)

how lovely of you, wish i had friends like you! xx

Thank you for all your suggestions- I suffered terribly with sickness myself but wanted to hear what had worked for other people- some great ideas here!

Something salty definitely. I love ginger but can’t stomach it right now :( maybe some nice new nail polish/face mask or something xx

PinkHeart5914 · 31/05/2018 17:18

Only thing that worked for me was the full sugar cola and ready salted crisps! Drinking water or anything ginger make me feel more sick tbh

Mousefunky · 31/05/2018 17:34

Mints! Peppermint tea and packets of mints. It’s all that helped my sickness.

LBNM19 · 31/05/2018 17:41

How sweet, maybe a nice candle, some bath stuff and magazines. X

louella99 · 31/05/2018 17:42

Lovely idea. Salty things and fizzy drinks worked best for me. They get mixed reviews but I had some success with anti sickness wristbands too.

MoodyTwo · 31/05/2018 19:03

Rest salted crisps worked for me

Boredoftryingusernames · 31/05/2018 19:51

That's such a lovely thing to do. I would keep clear of ginger unless she has said that it helps - people with really bad sickness seem to find it makes them worse, and get a bit fed up with everyone going on about trying ginger!
Like the movies idea, maybe some magazines, books. Candle and bath stuff would be nice, giving food is just so tricky as so individual what she may be able to eat!

ProudThrilledHappy · 31/05/2018 19:53

Mint tea definitely

Guacamoledip · 31/05/2018 19:58

I’m not sure about the nail polish suggestion, the last thing I’d want to do now is paint my nails, plus the smell!
Why don’t you ask her if there’s anything she’s managing to keep down or that she fancies? At one stage the only thing I thought might possibly stay down was cake, after three days of everything coming back up my friend brought me one round because I’d mentioned it, it meant so much to me.
If you know her size some new pyjamas might be nice

Rockandrollwithit · 31/05/2018 20:01

No ginger!
Or crackers or sparkling water.

I had HG during my second pregnancy and I wanted to kill anyone who suggested ginger. Believe me, she would have tried it already!!

Gennz18 · 31/05/2018 20:31

A packet of ondansetron. Do not give her ginger in any form, if she has HG it will not go down well...

Star88 · 31/05/2018 20:36

Hula hoops and a coke

Bowlofbabelfish · 31/05/2018 20:39

Absolutely no ginger or crackers! I’ve had HG twice and the mere mention of ginger was enough to drive me into a homicidal frenzy. Or it would have been if I’d been able to lift my head without puking.

How about:

Big pack of rennies
A nice big water bottle.
Non mint toothpaste (for some reason that helped me.)
Any kind of bath stuff she likes.
A cooling pack - it’s hot, that makes it worse.
Bath robe/nightie is a good suggestion

Basically NOT food. NOT ginger (please, believe me) any kind of physically comforting item you think she might like? Nice socks? Headband for holding hair back? Ornamental sickbags?

I had a sense of humour, a decorative bucket and headband would have made me laugh, but ginger would have really upset me. People who suggest it I’m sure mean well but HG is so far beyond ginger it’s untrue.

emelsie · 31/05/2018 20:47

Not got any great ideas myself but I would steer clear of any of the food suggestions as it can be so different for each person, anything ginger or mint would have made me retch at just the site, even though it helps some others.

MedusaBadHairDay · 31/05/2018 20:49

Frozen ice lollies were the only thing that stopped my morning sickness - especially in the heat of summer - they seemed to numb the queasyness!

MedusaBadHairDay · 31/05/2018 20:49

Or queasiness even Confused

llangennith · 31/05/2018 20:53

Ask you friend if there’s anything she really fancies food-wise and get her some. Don’t buy anything smelly like nail polish!

Oct18mummy · 31/05/2018 22:36

These bonbons have been a lifesaver for me I would recommend for your friend,
I pop one in and feel less sick. Plus I would get them sea sickness bands. www.myrtleandmaude.com/product-page/mum-to-be-peppermint-oil-bon-bons-enriched-with-b6

Eeeeek2 · 31/05/2018 22:44

Avoid anything that smells so nail varnishes or a face mask would make me vomit because of the smell.

Offer to help her with tasks if you can, washing up, laundry, clean the bathroom. Anything really.

If you want things for a hamper then a range of dryish nibbles so she can try whatever she fancies, cereal bars, crackers, plain crisps, glucose tablets, Coca Cola (was a life saver for me).

Please please please don't fill the hamper with ginger things, if one more person suggested ginger biscuits there would of been the first ginger biscuit related murder.

Snipples · 01/06/2018 05:12

Agree totally with the ginger naysayers! Honestly she will have heard about it's "magical healing powers" 🙄 a million times by now and it gets annoying after a while.

What a lovely thing to do. I had hg all through my pregnancy (being induced today 🎉) and nail polish and a face mask wouldn't have bothered me. Different strokes for different folks and all that!
