My husband and I have just got our BFP!! We would really like to announce our pregnancy to our family on Father’s Day but we will only be 7 weeks. Do you think this is too early? It would be his parents, my parents and grandparents!

We told our immediate family the weekend after we got our BFP so at about 5 weeks! That was both sets of parents & siblings. Couldn’t have kept it secret and we’d want their support should anything go wrong. If you feel happy to tell them then tell them!!

Wellthisunexpected · 30/05/2018 21:18

Would you tell them if you miscarried? That's my 'test'. If I wouldn't tell them if you lose the baby, don't tell them you are pregnant.

I'm 4weeks pregnant, other than DH I've told my best mate who helped me through my last pregnancy, and that's it. I won't tell anyone else, not even my mum or my sister, as I wouldn't (and didn't) tell them about any miscarriage.

lozbeth · 30/05/2018 21:21

There so many theories to telling people and when, think of this this way you can tell people now and it's could all be good news but it could also not we waited until after 12 week scan and then it was only close family and friends. The more people you tell if anything ever should go wrong then it more people to explain too.

Mousefunky · 30/05/2018 22:47

Tell anyone you would be happy also informing of a miscarriage. I don’t want to sound downtrodden but after my two missed miscarriages which were only discovered at the first scan, I would not tell anyone I wouldn’t want to know about a miscarriage before that first scan.

Gracesmom28 · 30/05/2018 22:50

@plumsmith we got our bfp today too 😁 I think we’re going to wait until 12 week scan to tell family and friends I think close family is different I really want to tell my sister so I think I will but swear her to secrecy lol xx

Coffee3 · 30/05/2018 22:58

I’d agree with pp about who you’d also tell if things didn’t work out , and I also thought that once you’ve told someone you can’t untell them, so if they would then talk about it nonstop and you didn’t want the fuss maybe hold off a little longer?! That’s what I’m thinking at the moment Grin

ferntwist · 31/05/2018 03:19

I would wait until after your 12-week scan so you’re out of the danger zone. You’ll have a lovely pic to show then too!

PrimeraVez · 31/05/2018 04:28

With DC1 we told immediate family really early (around 6/7 weeks) because we were on holiday together and it was hard to hide the no drinking/nausea/fatigue.

We told the same people around the same point when I was pregnant again, but that ended in a MMC Sad I found it really hard ‘untelling’ people and to be honest, I was really disappointed by some family member’s reactions, so when I fell pregnant with DC2, we decided not to announce anything until after my 12 week scan.

You may find that if you tell people too early they may become bored. It seems like the world’s longest pregnancy and others are not as interested as you would like to think.

Stephisaur · 31/05/2018 08:27

We're telling this weekend after our scan tomorrow, so that we can give our parents a scan photo :)

I have to agree with @Candyflip though, I've known about my siblings pregnancies from 4/6 weeks and that 9 months DRAGS.

I think the Father's Day idea is cute, but I would swear them to secrecy if you do tell them then :) you don't want to announce again at 12 weeks for everyone to say "oh yes, we heard it from..."

Congratulations on your BFP :)

AreWeDoingThisNow · 31/05/2018 09:01

We told close family straight away, about 6 weeks. I would have preferred to wait until 12 to tell the rest of the world but I had HG so everyone at work knew too Envy

Celebelly · 31/05/2018 09:05

I called my mum while the pee was still wet! If anything happens I will need her support so I wanted her to know asap. Same with my best friend. For the wider family we will wait till 12 weeks, although we might tell a couple more people if we decide to have a private early scan and all is well.

DBoo · 31/05/2018 09:10

Last time i told my parents the day i tested. It was new years eve. My dad was excited and drunk and told everyone. This time keeping it to myself as long as i can unless i need support then i will have to tell. Ive known a week so far and surprisingly am happy noone knows.

mumofmunchkin · 31/05/2018 09:10

This is our third baby, and we've never gone for the big announcement, we've just told people at what feels the appropriate time for that person/group, and generally asked them to keep it to themselves if it was before 12 weeks.

We generally told our parents quite early (5/6 weeks) and I told my sister about the same time this time as I wanted her support. A couple of friends who I see a lot of know (I'm 8 weeks now). We have just told our other brothers and sisters as we will be seeing them at the weekend and I don't want to have to put a brave face and pretend I don't feel shit and want to sleep all day.

Basically, build your support network - the people you want support off day-to-day (whether that's family, or friends), and the people you would want support off if you lost the baby. The world in general can wait.

I am 13 weeks and we haven't told anyone yet! But I know it's unusual to wait this long. Reason is we are older first time parents with a long story of infertility, miscarriages etc. Our families live abroad, my mum and his dad are ill and have been longing for grandchildren for a long long time.
We absolutely wanted to make sure all was ok before announcing. We have been on the verge to give the good news already four times and then I miscarried.
Also, we don't want to tell friends before family!
We will travel to see them next week and after that we will go public with the rest of the world. It's been great to stay in our little dream bubble, we really enjoyed it. But now we can't wait to share the news!! (well, and it's twins, so double joy to announce:))
