Reduced Movements

I have experienced reduced baby movements since Saturday.

I visited the hospital on Sunday and was hooked up to one of those machines that measure baby heart rate etc.

Nothing was found to be wrong.

I visited again on Monday and did the machine again. It was bank holiday so could not get a scan.

Nothing was found to be wrong from the machine the second time.

Visited for a third time on Tuesday, did the machine again and had a scan.

Nothing was found to be wrong.

I am still experiencing reduced movements.

What should I do?

Maybe phone midwife and ask her what to do? Hopefully all fine if the scan was ok but no harm in phoning for advice :-)

SinkGirl · 30/05/2018 17:30

Go back again. I know it’s massively tedious but I almost lost one of my twins when he stopped moving. They knew something was wrong before I did because his heart rate was static (I didn’t actually know he wasn’t moving as the other moved so much). Keep going back. Don’t feel bad about it.

How long do these reduced movement spells last? Are they always at a similar time of day?

CoolGirlsNeverGetAngry · 30/05/2018 17:31

Keep going in. Really, really. It doesn’t matter if you’ve already been in once or fifty times.

mynameyourname · 30/05/2018 17:31

Yep call your midwife.

How far along are you?

I had reduced movements towards the end of both my pregnancies and they sent me in for monitoring every single time. It’s relatively easy and the stakes are potentially very high.

nomorespaghetti · 30/05/2018 17:32

How far along are you? I agree, call the midwife and ask. They won't mind. In my last pregnancy the baby flipped from head down to breach, which caused a huge change/reduction in movement, do you think it's possible that baby has moved position? I did have an anterior placenta though, so that may have made a difference.

Hope all is ok, and always call the midwife if in any doubt Flowers

mynameyourname · 30/05/2018 17:34

Or yes, as others say just go in if that’s how it works where you are.

I remember a woman apologising when the baby turned out to be fine and the nurse was adamant that you should always, always get checked no matter what. As she said, “We’re dealing with human lives here!”

RicStar · 30/05/2018 17:37

What did the maternity assessment unit tell you? No one on here can possibly say anything other than go and be seen again. Did MAU offer any follow up / scan / midwife / consultant appointment?

chocchip1 · 30/05/2018 17:48

I am 33 weeks along.

"Did MAU offer any follow up / scan / midwife / consultant appointment?"

No, just said to come back if still not happy after 24 hours.

"do you think it's possible that baby has moved position"

yes from the scan yesterday it seems that he has.

What happened when you were on the monitor? Did you feel movements? They'd only be happy if they could see on the trace that his heart rate was fluctuating and saw signs of movements, could you feel them then? Just wondering if he's changed position so you aren't feeling him as clearly. In your position I'd go back, but ask them to explain to you what they're seeing that means they're happy, and how it fits with you not feeling him move.

chocchip1 · 30/05/2018 18:09

"What happened when you were on the monitor? Did you feel movements? "

Yes I pressed the button they give you several times.

Flisspaps · 30/05/2018 18:12

Go in. Every day if need be.

chocchip1 · 30/05/2018 18:59

I hope everything went ok op Thanksyou did the right thing going in

Smurf123 · 30/05/2018 21:32

Go in please! This happened me my ds is here safely after I was induced early because of these but he did have to spend a week in nicu. I remember feeling so silly as he would kick when I was on the machine but his movements just weren't the same.
People on here reassured me and told me to go in, I am incredibly grateful and glad I did!
Hope you have gone in and all is well Thanks

ferntwist · 31/05/2018 03:17

OP you've not updated. Hope all is ok?

SleepFreeZone · 01/06/2018 07:51

Sounds really stressful OP. I hope you and your baby are doing ok 💐

chocchip1 · 02/06/2018 10:27

Sorry for not getting back sooner, yesterday was the last day of work prior to maternity so it has been hectic.

I have been in for monitoring Wednesday evening, Thursday morning, Friday morning and I am going back in later today.

They tell me every thing is fine, but still ask me to come in every day due to the baby's reduced movements. I am booked to see a consultant/specialist in a week and a half.

Has anyone else been in this situation? Is it silly to go back every day and get the same ok read out from the machine?

Plasticgiraffe · 02/06/2018 10:48

Yes keep going in - it might be nothing but it might be something your instinct is picking up on

ferntwist · 02/06/2018 11:01

Definitely the right thing to do to go back every day. Everything crossed for you

TenuedeNimes · 02/06/2018 11:28

Not silly at all. I had an anterior placenta with both of mine which was probably the reason for the reduced movements (ie I just couldn’t feel them). Nonetheless I had regular monitoring, the stakes are way too high to take risks on this.

DirtyThirties · 02/06/2018 12:05

I have the same problem, 32 weeks and I have been in hospital a few times this week, each time hooked up to the trace and told everything is fine but come back tomorrow if no improvements. It's very confusing as they are telling you the baby seems fine but still barely moving and that you should continue to monitor reduced movements. They were very insistent that I keep going back though.
A week and a half seems a long time to wait to see a doctor if you have been in multiple times, I saw a doctor the last time and she did the scan. I suggest you just tell them you are prepared to wait and see a doctor while you are there, one of them can spare 10 minutes to bring forward your appointment for something potentially serious. Good luck OP and keep us updated

Smurf123 · 02/06/2018 13:39

Where I am i was told if you were in more than once for reduced movements policy was that you had to be seen by a doctor regardless of the monitor saying everything is fine. I'd also ask to see a doctor and tell them you are willing to wait.
