Following as I'm in the same boat. However, I have looked at threads on here before and got some ideas. Things like:

Room thermometer (gro eggs are good)
Forehead/ear thermometer
Baby monitor (if you want one)

Congrats on your pregnancy 🙂. When are you due?

Markygirl1995 · 30/05/2018 08:01

@Dorabean thank you that's handy ideas wouldn't of thought of those! I'm due in October 17th I've got to the half way point so time to get my bum in gear!! How about you? 🙂

End of July for me! Only a few weeks left to go so I REALLY need to get myself in gear! Haha.

I have just found my list, a few things I saw that were recommended...

Hooded towels
Water wipes
Baby nail scissors
Changing mat

Newborns need very little really, I know people often buy far more than they need. Remember the internet can do next day delivery on most things if you find you've forgotten anything when baby is here!

TinyTerror1 · 30/05/2018 09:16

Ooh good suggestions Dora. My list has
Cot
Buggy
Travel cot (apparently this is essential if you want to go anywhere)
Baby bath (although my SIL swears by this as you have both hands free www.mothercare.com/supports-and-mats/mothercare-fabric-bath-support/651707.html)
Car seat
Something to feed baby in (for a bit later obviously)
Steriliser if you're bottle feeding
Blankets (you probably have that down already)

Dorabean · 30/05/2018 09:51

I forgot about the baby bath! We bought a seat where you can place babies from newborn in the big bath from mamas and papas, stops them slipping around everywhere apparently! The mothercare one looks good too!

We're getting a next to me or a tutti bambini cozee crib, it's also a travel cot which is great!

I'm sure someone else will be along and mention things we have forgotten but think we've done quite well!

TinyTerror1 · 30/05/2018 09:53

Hi Dora yes I think if you have the seat then you don't need a baby bath. I have a baby bath coming from family but after what my SIL said I think I will get the seat :)

socksonradiator · 30/05/2018 10:14

Hi, as a 1st time mum I can guarantee you'll buy more things than you will need! It's good to be organised and have everything you need but it's also lovely to have an excuse to go out and push baby in that new pram Smile Close family and friends will also love to feel helpful by running errands for you!

Can I suggest that you make three lists? One for you, one for baby and one for equipment (can you tell I'm a list makerWink)

Once you've made your lists you can check them against online/published lists and mark which items are a common items and therefore a must have and which are a possible needed item. Show the list to family and friends who have had babies to and get their opinion.

Things I wish I'd have been told to get as a 1st time mum that weren't on any lists I saw?
Barley water squash and a pint glass for quenching that breast feeding thirst, painkillers for afterpains (only while breast feeding, I don't want to scare anyone Shock and it's a good thing because it means your tummy it going back to normal!) and cake/biscuits and tea/coffee for the guests who will be visiting.

I hope this helps. Happy shopping Smile

Don't know if this is any help but I'm a FTM. Four weeks to go! We've done the nursery etc and have a tutti bambini for the bedroom... Much bigger than I expected! I've made a little basket up on my bedside with nappies, wipes, muzzys and a thin change mat so I can do the night feeds with as little disruption as poss. We also got a baby bouncer which rocks itself to music to allow us to eat dinner, my sister swore by hers. Have you thought about gro bags, swaddles for night time? Cellular blankets etc. Also I second the list writing that has been my life, I made four hospital bags too, mine and hubby's, baby, food and one full of extras to stay in the boot. Congratulations it's such an exciting time!

Markygirl1995 · 30/05/2018 12:40

I've made this so far 😂

Nappy bags are handy too!

Kittykat93 · 30/05/2018 12:48

Think you've definitely covered most of it!!

I went out and brought loads of cute little outfits for my baby (which never got used). Just stock up on loads of baby grows and vests as that's what they'll live in! And they grow so quick so don't spend too much.

Also muslins - buy loads !!!!

Lots of Cotton wool pads, nappy cream/sudocrem. You have to change their nappy loads at the beginning and we got through tons.

If you're planning to use a sleeping bag get a couple in case one needs to go in the wash. I've found it really useful as he's got bigger and more wriggly as he kicks all blankets off. You can also get those swaddling blankets if you choose to try that.

If I think of anything you don't have on your list I'll be back. Smile congratulations!

Smurfybubbles · 30/05/2018 13:08

FTM currently with my 3 week old DS snoozing on my lap!

An unusual one that we forgot was blinds for the car! We had to use a muslin for our journey home from the hospital and it's taken me 2 weeks to get round to ordering them and he had the sun in his face every time we went out in the car.

Also get 6 million muslins you will need them! I'm going through 4/5 every day cleaning up puke.

I'd also recommend getting a basket for every room the baby will be in. We have one downstairs and one in our room. We stock it with nappies, wipes, nappy cream, clean muslins, happy sacks, clean onesie and antibac hand gel. Saves me trekking back to his room every time he needs changing and the onesie is handy incase he needs changing in the middle of the night!

MrsL2016 · 30/05/2018 13:15

All these suggestions have been great so far. I would add a sling for carrying baby and still being able to get stuff done and a mirror that goes around the headrest in the car for being able to see baby from the front seat. These 2 really help me out when I have my 10 week old DS on my own.

Rikalaily · 30/05/2018 13:34

Here's what we have for DC#6, we have learned what is really needed and whats not over the years.

Equipment: We don't have a pram because I use slings but will buy a buggy when he's around 12m old to use on long days out.

Travel cot (with a changing bit on the top)
Carseat (got the Joie one which lasts until age 8)
Cot
Baby bath
Bouncy seat
Grooming kit (nail clippers, brush, thermometer etc)
Bath thermometer
Slings
Some disposable nappies for first few weeks
Water wipes
Cotton wool
Cloth nappies and wipes
Muslins
Towels

Bedding:

4 sheets
5 blankets
Will buy grow bags for winter

Clothes:

Hats
Scratch mitts
Socks
Vests
Onesies/sleepsuits with feet
Onesies without feet
Cardigans
A couple of outfits, comfy stuff like mix & match leggings & tops type things. Mostly keep them in onesies with a cardie when tiny.

Bonelessbanquet · 30/05/2018 13:35

For the poster that said they were thinking of getting the tutti bambini - please don’t. It tilts on one side towards the bed when attached. Which makes baby roll over, there’s been a few people I know who have said the same and have had replacements that still do the same.

PeoniesandPretties · 30/05/2018 13:48

@bonelessbanquets oh really, I haven't come across that yet? Will keep an eye on that as we have one, is that with the clips attached?

MrsL2016 · 30/05/2018 15:24

Also sleepsuits with built in scratch mits are great.

Bonelessbanquet · 30/05/2018 17:34

Yes with the clips attached to the bed, doesn’t seem as bad when standing on its own. Sorry I’m not sure how to tag people into the post.

I’m on a birth board of another website and a few other members have also commented. They’ve had them replaced but apparently still doing the same - we just bought a cot and replaced it.

Markygirl1995 · 31/05/2018 15:47

It's pay day and gone mental 😂

Extra large muslins. Great as spare sheets if all others are dirty, shawl if you want to cover up breastfeeding, floor cover if you want to put baby down at friend house/grass in the park, also great for nights that are too hot for blankets or grobag.

Infacol
Calpol (or none branded version)
Ear thermometer or no touch thermometer
Sock ons (probably the best invention ever)
Insulated travel mug (so your coffee is still hot once you've managed to put baby down)
Note pad (I had a great memory before children)
