"Flurries" of frantic movements at night

Wondering if anyone else gets this? I'm 30 weeks and baby moves on and off throughout the day with busier spells every now and then. But sometimes at night, once I'm in bed, she'll have an absolutely crazy 15/20 minutes where the movements are non stop and can actually feel quite "frantic" feeling - rolls, shifts, bubbly feelings, sore kicks - the lot. She's done this before so I'm trying not to worry, but there's some horrible things online about an INCREASE in movements being a worrying sign too. Anyone else? Will the panic ever end?!?

I had this too! I did have an anterior placenta so I only felt very subtle moves few and far between during be day and then as soon as I lay down I could actually properly feel movements so it felt so crazy.

I think it's important to know your baby's normal and of course pop up for some monitoring if you are worried!

If you're worried just give labour ward a call. The on duty midwife can either reassure you over the phone or ask you to come in for monitoring.

I think I remember that it can be normal for baby to be more active at night because during the day your movement lulls the baby to sleep, then at night you finally stop and baby has a party.

DD was like this in that she moved a lot more at night but she was atypical in terms of movements anyway - she'd go 2–3 days at a time barely moving at all and then be suddenly a lot more active. It was really stressful during all the quiet phases!

(I feel all nostalgic now about how I used to like feeling her kicking around! - broody Wink)

I’m awake rn as we’ve just had the nightly tap dance party. Mine is definitely more active when I’m trying to rest. Probably because I’m not busy and aware of it all more.

I'm 21 weeks and just had this for the first time last night. I am a bit worried about how it's going to feel when she's a bit bigger!

ReggaetonLente · 30/05/2018 09:25

Mine does this too. I had been blaming the chocolate bar I’m in the habit of eating before bed Blush so glad to hear it seems quite normal!

BlueBug45 · 30/05/2018 09:42

Mine likes moving around 1am. I freaked when it didn't happen for a few days around 20 weeks.

Mine do this too. As pp said, you just need to learn what's normal for your baby.

kakes12 · 30/05/2018 11:28

Thanks everyone. Today her movements are back to the odd kick here and there. So since this has happened a few times now I guess her pattern is to have a party in the evening.

As soon as I lay on my side, she has a disco! Also have an anterior placenta so whilst I feel her move pretty much all day now (33 weeks, today she's obviously on some sort of rush!) when I lay down, she just goes for it. I love it. Grin

I have this too! Did phone up the midwife in the end who reassured me that if she’s otherwise doing her ‘normal’ movements it’s probably just a new part of her developing pattern. It doesn’t half feel weird though - like she’s doing star jumps in there!

LostMyBaubles · 30/05/2018 12:52

I could have asked the same question!
I blame it on the lucozade lol

Ive cut down a lot. Was the only thing that helped me with HG and I have around a small glass now rather than a big bottle 🤔

babydreamer1 · 30/05/2018 12:57

Yes I have this at night. As soon as I lay down flat either on the sofa or bed off he goes! I'm 21+4 and we can see kicks and bulges on my stomach and he wriggles around! I've been feeling him properly sing week 15. My consultant said this morning that he was very active, she said some babies are just more active and others are lazy! Same as people I guess! Nothing to worry about.

Aw12345 · 30/05/2018 13:03

My baby is exactly the same. Goes FLIPPING crazy over night!
Have had a few pregnancy complications so am having 4 week scans... Only because of this I learned that sometimes they go so crazy that baby went from head down position to breach position then back to head down position! No wonder it feels like there's a River Dance going on in there!!
