Any midwives around? - very sick

So I'm 31 weeks and have been ill since last night. Being sick almost non stop and can barely even keep water down. This is accompanied with the most severe stomach cramps I've even had. Sort of feels like trapped wind.

Should I call the midwives? I don't want to waste people's times. Also don't particularly fancy going to the hospital either as I can barely lift my head from the pillow. Can i ride this out at home?

Have you got the number for your community midwife? I'd call them.

BusterGonad · 27/05/2018 11:17

I wouldn't be riding this out at home, I'd be off to the doctors, hospital anywhere that can help.

Second thoughts if ring nhs direct as if it's D&V you'd spread it, get advice via the phone.

In my 1st pregnancy my dh gave me a stomach bug at around 36 weeks. I called the community midwives and one of them came round to check me out and baby. So I'd give them a ring. I wouldn't go to hospital unless necessary cause you don't want to be spreading it around.

I'd give the midwives or 111 a call, your not wasting anyone's time. The fact that you cant keep water down isn't great especially if it's a hot day where you are. They can at least give you some advice.

Potkettleblack2 · 27/05/2018 11:22

Definitely call, just in case.

gingerbreadbiscuits · 27/05/2018 11:24

Give the midwife a call. They will know what is the best thing to do.

AnnieOH1 · 27/05/2018 11:25

Please do get some advice, in my last pregnancy I had a little stomach upset I thought I could handle (regular stomach issues so nothing out the ordinary) less than 24 hours later I was in an ambulance, the paramedics even had to dress me I couldn't do it myself. Just get checked out especially if you're home alone at all. Flowers

I’m midwife.

You might need IV fluids. But don’t need to be waiting around a maternity unit for a check. That would be grim for you and also spread the virus around.

How about out-of-hours GP? They should give you an appt time?

Do you have a number for a community midwife? They could come and do the checks at home.

Your delivery suite can also advise of how best to get you checked over.

Thanks everyone. Better safe than sorry I suppose. I'll give them a phone x

I'm a midwife...you definitely need to call and be seen.

flumpybear · 27/05/2018 11:30

Definitely seek help Thanks

NotARegularPenguin · 27/05/2018 11:32

The thing is while it's likely to be a bug it could be pre eclampsia, early prem labour, even sepsis. You're 31 weeks and having stomach cramps. Hope it's just a bug and you're better soon.

RosieCotton · 27/05/2018 12:03

I was admitted a few weeks ago because of a vomiting bug. Only because I had ketones in my urine and I needed IV fluids as I was dehydrated. I'd give nhs 111 a call and see whay advice they give.
