Hi all I am 8 weeks pregnant today and jave an early scan booked in at 6.40.

How much water should I be drinking 1 hour before and does it have to be just water?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

About a pint and a half an hour before but I'd go two pints if you can manage it. It can be any liquid.

Osirus · 25/05/2018 17:21

I think it’s clear liquid and about 2 pints.

They took me in early for mine before I’d even started drinking and they said it would be fine. This was 12 weeks.

I had internal scans before then - could this be the case for you?

It doesn't have to be a full bladder. My appointment was running later than expected and I was desperate to wee and ended up going to the bathroom before they called me in for the scan.

That’s right, I think it’s more important if you are very overweight, so they can get a clearer view. I imagine at 8 weeks it would be internal?

Thank you all..

The lady on the phone said that they will try external first and if that doesn't work they will do an internal which Im a bit scared of!!

Yeah I over did it on my first early one, don't drink loads - a couple of mugs of water an hour before should suffice, don't make yourself uncomfortable. And don't be scared of an internal scan! It doesn't hurt, it only goes a small way in and it's lubed up (tmi? Maybe.)

SoyDora · 25/05/2018 19:19

I had an external scan last week at 7+4 without a full bladder and they could see fine! No one mentioned needing a full bladder.

DoraNora · 25/05/2018 19:53

I had an internal scan at 7+4 today and it was really easy and not particularly uncomfortable.

You can see a lot more - not just the baby and the heartbeat but your ovaries and everything else too.

Xxx

Good luck in yours! X

They tried with the ultrasound and it worked. What an amazing experience seeing that tiny little bean pop up on the screen and listening to the heartbeat!
