Pregnant with DC1, and for some reason I've been inundated with muslin cloths as gifts! Big ones, small ones, some as big as your head.. Just wanted to know your crafty uses for them other than mopping up dribble and vomit! Grin

Umm - only if you don’t allow air to circulate

UmmMeToo · 25/05/2018 19:05

Yes your right.

biscuitaddict · 25/05/2018 19:07

Swaddles, bib, sun shade, flannel in the bath. You will use ALL the muslins haha, there will be 100 in the wash and you'll need one!!

applesandpears56 · 25/05/2018 19:09

Get a very large one - tie a knot to the pram hood then drape over to handlebars - it forms an adjustable sum shade which lets air go in the sides

MilkAndCookies1 · 25/05/2018 19:11

I literally hardly used mine.

And please don’t us as sunshade for pram. It will cook your baby. Get the ‘snoozeshade’ from Amazon instead for that.

We folded one under his head to minimise washing sheets
We also used one as a cuddly, as I didn't want him attached to something irreplaceable
Otherwise all the above

newtlover · 25/05/2018 19:13

dd had bad excema and could only wear cotton, a (dyed) muslin made a comfy scarf for her

Magpiefeather · 25/05/2018 19:16

In a heat wave, soak and wring out in cool water then draped over baby to cool them down. Worked a treat when our newborn got all hot and bothered in our roasting flat!

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 25/05/2018 19:21

I still use muslins now my dds are 9 and 5 for many of the above uses... but wanted to add As a makeshift hat in sunny weather when babies/toddlers. Dds couldn't pull off as easily and covered their necks :)

Jozxyqk · 25/05/2018 19:38

I use them as face wash cloths. I had a pack that never got opened when DD was tiny, they make lovely alternatives to flannels. I just use one for a day, let it dry so it doesn't go horrid in the laundry basket, then chuck in the wash with the towels. I use a new face cloth every day or so, so I get through quite a lot!

We also used muslins for a swaddle for DD when she was newborn & we had a heatwave. Also as an ultra thin cover during the same heatwave. She used to sleep in just a nappy sometimes - she's an extremely warm person, like DH.
Some of the very large ones were just big enough to tie across the pram top & use as an additional sun shade.
We also used to cover the arm of the sofa with them, in case of DD being sick after feeding. Didn't help much - we still had to replace the sofa, but we got a bit of extra time out of it, before it became irretrievably stinky...

Windydayz · 25/05/2018 19:49

Yes to all above. I use one to buff the shower screen to a shine.

Also, i used to roll on up and put it under baby ds to lift a buttock. He seemed to sleep better when tilted to the side. He wasnt as far as 90 degrees but just a gentle tilt.

Ds finds it a comforter.

AuntyDiluvian · 25/05/2018 20:55

Drape over baby's head and then pull gently downwards to multitask playing peekaboo and gently stroking their face.
Easiest way to entertain mine I ever found.

puppymouse · 25/05/2018 20:59

I couldn't have coped without mine! I used to put a couple against my skin when she was feeding, then knotted them both to two of the bars at the top of her cot. She would lie on her back with one each side of her head and whichever way she turned her face she could suck on it or smell it.

She's turning five this year and has 8 of the bastards in her or my bed still.

New to this site so please bear with me I am thinking of leaving the family home I have two children who are adults but still at home...my husband for various reasons has broke my heart and the damage has been done I cant see a way back and think the only way forward is if I leave. One chils gets it the other child cant seem to understand why I cant forgive and forget ...I dont want to go into full details with him as I want him to have his dad when I am not there and they have a good relationship now can this be made as pain free as possible and anyone else in a similar positon. Thank you

NotTheQueen · 26/05/2018 16:48

I dampen it and wrap my cooked ham in it before placing in the fridge - stops it drying out if I re-do it daily.

socktastic · 26/05/2018 19:27

Extra lining for head of Moses basket/cot/bouncy chair/pram to catch the spew

I haven't read through all but NO do NOT use one for shade when baby in pram!!!! (Or any blanket)
Can cause baby to over heat!

cjferg · 27/05/2018 13:23

Ended up with about 20 muslins before my son was born and thought that I would never use them. Then very vomity baby came along...

Use them to mop up sick
to wrap around him when feeding (we call it his dinner jacket and whenever it gets put on he gets all smiley and cute because he knows hes about to be fed)
big ones were good swaddles
sun shades
line the moses basket with so don't have to change the sheet every day
extra layers in pram
your creativity is the limit!

Mumofstar · 07/06/2018 09:50

I put them down on the bed when I lay down DD to lay down BF. That way I can slide her around to help her latch on without having to push or lift her. It also catches the dribbles of milk.
I’ve also used smaller ones as padding under boob during BFing for lift for the upright feeding positions, under her head only in cot in case of dribbles, as a neck cushion when using a stretchy wrap in newborn configuration, at the head of change mat so baby isn’t in contact with the cold mat during night changes, as insulation around bottles (hot or cold), as bibs for me while eating during BFing to stop food dropping on baby, as a bit of padding under head on hard surfaces.
I also have some beautiful Milkbarn ones which I wear as scarves!

catinboots9 · 07/06/2018 09:56

They make great facial exfoliating cloths
