Sleeping on your back - need tips!

Hello!

I keep waking up through the night on my back - I've always slept on my back ever since I was little. I need tips on how to stop it. Pillow barricades don't seem to be working :(

I have a pregnancy pillow that isn't helping either, though I'm not 100% sure how best to lie with it!

Anyone any advice or tips?

Thank you xxx

I wouldnt worry too much about this. Even on the NHS website it says that the study linking sleeping on your back to stillbirth was not really a comprehensive study and doesnt count for much at all. And btw all the babies in the study were born healthy. The stillbirth link was just something they extrapolated for some reason... will see if I can find the link

Here it is. Basically its saying that whilst its probably a bit better to sleep on your side for blood flow... that theres not really any evidence that sleeping on your back causes stillbirth.

I agree! I read the study myself as I’m a back sleeper and it was concerning me reading all the ‘sleep on your side’ articles.
The study is a very small sample and as pp said, the outcomes were not adverse for back sleepers. All mums and babies were healthy. When you’re on your back it does restrict blood / oxygen slightly but even so does not say it is detrimental overall.

I always lay on my side to go to sleep and if I wake up on my back I purposely roll over to my left side but I’ve stopped worrying about it too much.

Incidentally when I sleep for long periods on my sides I find my belly / bump aches, whereas this doesn’t happen if I’ve been laying on my back resting.

Just try to fall to sleep on your side as much as possible but don’t stress over it
