I'm on implanon and it's not due out until November 2018, however I've taken a pregnancy test this morning after being 2 days late for my period and it's come back positive, im going to keep this baby but does anyone know what I need to do now? Has this happened to anyone else?

You need to get the implant ASAP!Think it can increase risk of miscarriage. Plus they're full of synthetic hormones I think (don't quote me on that ) lol you need you phone your doctors surgery and inform them you've had a positive pregnancy test. They'll ask you to make an appointment and probably give you some samples to pass urine into. But explain you need the implant out asap. The local GUM clinics might have free appointments available! But obviously tell them you're pregnant too. Think they just use a numbing cream then a small appoint of numbing stuff in a needle. That's what they done with mine! Congratulations on the baby btw!🤗🤗

Increases risk of ectopic pregnancy*

Thanks, I've rang the doctor's and they said they can't take it out now I'm pregnant, so I've been in touch with family planning and they're going to contact me this afternoon, how rare are false positives? Can the implant cause them?

I didn’t have a period for 5 years with implants in. False positives are rare, but you need to ring family planning/GP for emergency appointment.

Happy32 · 24/05/2018 11:00

I've had 3 plants and I'll never get one again. I'd quite happily have 40 children before I use them again! So moody it was unreal! Felt like Jekyll and Hyde. I don't know much about false positives but you must have been feeling something to think you might be pregnant?? Also if you read up there are hundreds of women who have fallen pregnant on the implant!! How you feeling about it all?

caitlinn · 24/05/2018 11:13

I'm feeling a little bit overwhelmed by it all, we were planning on trying when my implant came out at the end of the year, but it's a little bit of a shock, my period was late that's why I thought to do a test and it came up positive straight away

Waiting for a phonecall this afternoon from a nurse as my normal gp can't take my implant out as I'm pregnant, so have to go through to family planning at hospital

It's maybe meant to be!!! Least you had been talking about it too!!! Can't help but be excited for you haha Lovely surprise! I'm 1st trimester pregnant with first baby (near the end of it) and I was so sure my period would cone. So 5 days late I tested, and like you shocked and overwhelmed! It's a lot to take in but it's good news! Hopefully they can help you and see what's happening. How come the doctors can't take it out?

Chwaraeteg · 24/05/2018 11:32

Caitlinn, I was in this situation with the nexplanon implant. I can't comment on whether it's safer to leave in or take it out as they are different products. I just wanted to tell you to make sure that your doctor contacts the manufacturer of the implant so that they can check whether or not the implant is faulty. This can be done via a very specific blood test that the manufacturer will pay for / organise (beware, the NHS will try and fob you off at every turn) to ensure no other implanon users are affected by a faulty batch.

I'm got pregnant on the coil. It was an unwanted pregnancy that ended naturally before I had a chance to make any decisions/do anything. I did go to the doctors though and talked about removing it. They were very nice and said are u sure u don't want to continue with the pregnancy? Basically because the doctor had a lady with an implant in she had been looking after that was doing well and now 30 something weeks. She says it's totally possible to have a normal pregnancy they just need to monitor you. So try not to worry, apparently it happens more than you think and the outcome can be good. They don't need to remove the implant. Removing it is the dangerous part!

missnevermind · 24/05/2018 12:04

Can you tell me why removing it is the most dangerous part?

Happy32 · 24/05/2018 12:22

I've had 3 out and it cause me no issues! The last one was a bit stuck and that was out after 15 minutes. Didn't feel a thing. Unless there's something in the numbing agent??? Or maybe pregnant ladies can't have minor treatments like that. I have no idea. I read up a lot on the implant before getting it and they'll maybe just have to monitor you more in the first trimester to see if baby is in the right place?

caitlinn · 24/05/2018 15:24

Got an appointment tomorrow to get the implant out, my mistake it's nexplanon I've got atm, definitely can't deny the 2 lines on the tests though, all the doctor's I've spoken to today are amazed that this has happened after so long of it working

I had a pregnancy with the old Norplant. They removed the implant quite early on, but advised that it shouldn't affect the pregnancy.
I miscarried, however I have since had 17 mcs, so couldn't comment as to whether it was related xx

SophieStripe · 24/05/2018 15:31

Sorry, are we talking about implant in the arm or in uterus? If its the latter, which is what I had, would have thought it pretty obvious why removal of it would be dangerous to baby?! Pulling something out of your uterus?!

caitlinn · 24/05/2018 15:49

I've got nexplanon, the implant that goes in your arm

OP posts:
Happy32 · 24/05/2018 17:11

Implanon goes into the arm. Enough said. Oh my gee look at those lines! Congratulations!!!!! Awe I think the hormones can run out of it. You're pretty close to November!!!

Happy32 · 24/05/2018 17:12

I'm so sorry for all your losses!

SophieStripe · 24/05/2018 17:53

Sorry I was confused! Sorry

Chwaraeteg · 25/05/2018 11:41

BTW, I was told that the hormones from the implant can't hurt the baby.
