help- dodgy nuchal result - how to get a private scan?

Hi, just had my 12 wk scan today and would really appreciate some advice. I'm 40 and my scan nuchal result only reduced my risk to 1 in 202 of downs. The hospital said anything under 1 in 250 is higher risk and did I want to consider amnio/csv? In the meantime they've taken bloods to add that as a factor which may of course increase or reduce my risk factor. But the thought of a 1 in 50 miscarriage rate for csv is a bit worrying and I can't bear thought of waiting 4 wks for amnio.
My nuchal scan didn't include the nasal bone, heart valve element. So I was wondering if a private scan would maybe give me a bit more to go on - has anyone done this/know how to go about it/how much it costs? I'm in London. Sorry for length of this, but I'm just a bit worried about it all.

As I said, he did my Nuchal Scan and I am now 26 weeks.
I just read his website and it clearly says that either the doctor or a sonograoher will do the scan. You are thengiven the results and can the decide whether or not you want to go downstairs to the FMC for further tests (CVS/ Amnio).
There are also prices listed for Dr Gibb and sonographer to do the scan.

But going on age alone - at age 40 the risk factoor for havving a baby with DS is about 1 in 100. See here . So for your age a risk of 1 in 202 is lower than your risk by age alone- the nuchal had given you a decreased risk. One in 250 might be high for a 20 year old (where the risk according to age alone is 1 in 1500) but not for a 40 year old.

I'd think carefully about any invasive tests given your results.

Oh, I believe you that you went to him for your nuchal scan, SweetyDarling, relax! I must have misunderstoond him and he meant that he just does not do the CVS/amnio, my mistake. I took it to mean the same thing when checking on the website - pregnancy brain over here too ! Either way, the FMC was great, to go back to the original topic in this thread.

little update - scan yesterday. Lovely experience at FMC - and more importantly they reduced my risk to 1 in 1000. I am very happy with that and unbelievably relieved!! Thanks again for the original recommendation - it was incredibly helpful! x
