Just wanted to get some ideas as to when would be a good time to tell friends about pregnancy?

6 weeks before birth for ILs, 6 months after for my family!
Long story! We’re not close!

Told family after 12 week scan and all the test results had come through.

Told a few friends a bit earlier as I know them through a sports club and event which I had to stop doing.

Told another group of friends as we were arranging a meetup when I was around 8/9 months pg so had to let them know to make sure the date was before my due date.

Haven't mentioned it on social media or wider/more distant friends. Generally I've only told people as and when it was necessary.

We were 13 weeks when we told family and close friends, as I wanted to wait until the Scan and testing had been done. I originally dug my heels in about putting it on social media at all but eventually ok’d my husband posting it at 21 weeks after the second Scan.

It seems the general theme is to announce after the 12 week scan, I think that's probably a good idea as people have mentioned your miscarriage risk decreases...But I feel like I'm about to burst, meeting with friends tonight for dinner...

How far are you? Will they know by you not drinking?

surreygirl1987 · 21/05/2018 19:09

I told my closest friends before the 12 week scan but other friends after. I'm 21 weeks now and still trying to keep it fairly quiet at work (scboolteacher).

Mumof2boys2018 · 21/05/2018 19:12

I didn’t tell anyone until I was 12 weeks with my first pregnancy, and didn’t anyone in my second pregnancy until I was 20 weeks, but due to having a miscarriage in my first pregnancy it makes me a lot more cautious to tell people. Everyone’s different what ever makes you comfortable 😊

@surreygirl1987 oh wow, 21 weeks is ages! How are you not bursting! Surely you'll start showing soon too!

16 weeks for friends and family, 20+ weeks for work. 37 weeks now and there are still people who are just finding out. I feel massive but clearly it isn't as obvious to everyone as I thought!

Babybear1117 · 22/05/2018 12:26

Told our immediate family at about 8 weeks then rest of the family Xmas which was about 12 weeks and never 'went public' with Facebook or anything just told people as and when we saw them. Now 34 weeks this week and some people still don't know until they see me haha!

A propensity for sticking my head down the lavatory always gave the game away.

Hatewaybuloo · 22/05/2018 12:35

1 or 2 of my closest friends- after getting bfp
Family - after scan
Other friends - whenever I saw them after scan
Work - still haven’t and I’m 20 weeks

loopylass13 · 22/05/2018 12:35

4 months - immediate family

6/7 months - close friends and further family (told boss due to health and Safety, maternity leave etc).

Between birth and one years old - when everyone else found out as they saw me about with a baby lol

I never felt that my pregnant was really anything I needed to share, that it was my happiness and therefore my business. If people figured it out on their own then that was fine but I didn't feel like I had to tell. I hate it when folk do the facebook thing and share everything, this is a time that you have full right to be selfish and private because they are YOUR family and YOUR memories.

surreygirl1987 · 22/05/2018 21:17

@Maedoula yeh I'm showing now but am dressing carefully so if I wear floaty blouses it's not totally obvious... My Year 13 certainly haven't noticed anyeay judging by the bottles of wine I got from them at their last lesson this week!
