Does breastfeeding always hurt?

My DS last time, it hurt so badly, I was sobbing in between in anticipation of the next feed. It was about 6-8 weeks before the pain was manageable.

Is it always like that? I'm hoping it will be easier with the second! 😬

DD1 it really hurt for about 3 months but I think I had vasospasm. Currently 8 months into feeding DD2 and it's been plain sailing from day 1. The only pain is when she clamps down on my nipple and pulls away! Angry

Tongue tie and latch would be the first things to consider with pain like that I'd say. Here's a great vid which helps explain why so important to get a deep latch and how it will make it more comfy. Also fascinating looking at all the different shapes and sizes of boobs! (Or maybe that's just me Blush)

Only hurts when he pinches my breast with his tiny razor sharp fingernails.

My eyes used to roll back in my head at the sharp letdown pain with DD1 but it eased after a couple of weeks.

Ok thanks for the replies!
I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

I had lots of help last time, his latch was fine, no tongue tie but he still managed to make me bleed! 😩

I am going to stock up on a few different breast pads and creams! Lol.

Just thought I'd pop back to let you know that feeding was still painful after the first few days, but now it only hurts on one side 13 days after birth. The pain is dissipating much faster than last time as both sides hurt for several weeks.

I am currently feeding twice in a row on the good side and then once on bad side to let it rest a bit. There's a bit of a size difference right now, but i expect that to go down once the pain stops and I can evenly feed DC.
