Severe reflux

I have quite bad reflux. It started around week 20. When gaviscon stopped working I went to the GP who put me on ranitidine. I’m now 27 weeks and it’s back - last night I woke up choking again. I eventually slept upright but that’s so uncomfortable I was awake every hour. I’ve booked another GP appointment but it’s nearly 3 weeks away. Does anyone have any tips for the meantime? I already have my dinner as early as possible. Thanks Smile

My nephew has bad reflux which is take domperidone for (and also omeprazole but that might be for something else). He's had a flare up recently so is off fruit and yoghurt which has helped. Might be worth limiting the acidic food you have after a certain time. I'd also go back to the doctor and say it isn't helping.

Avoid anything with tomatoes and spices in, tomatoes especially made my heartburn worse!

I had it badly with both pregnancies, so far not too bad with this one but I'm only 10 weeks. I took ranitidine daily and always had a pack of rennie next to my bed. When I would wake with that feeling I'd have a rennie and it would help in conjunction with the ranitidine.

Ask for Omeprazole instead of rinitidine, it actually works (I speak from experience and I took it in pregnancy.)

Can't you just call the Dr instead of waiting 3 weeks?

voxnihili · 19/05/2018 21:11

Thanks for the tips - I’ll try avoiding some of those foods and maybe also ask about omeprazole. @Teateaandmoretea - 3 weeks is the soonest appointment I could get :(

It doesn't help in the night, but small amounts often helps me during the day. Even just small snacks, seems to ward it off. It's just the worse isn't it, I sympathise

Yes it’s horrible. I’m not too bad during the day as I’m getting used to grazing more than meals and swig on gaviscon as soon as I can feel it starting. At night time though I don’t wake up until it’s too late!

I might experiment with having plain biscuits on the bedside table and when it wakes me up I'll eat one. I'll let you know how it goes ;)
