Being induced on an hours sleep

Hi everyone.
I’m being induced in 2 hours and I’ve had an hours (broken) sleep over night. I really just want people to tell me that I’ll be fine and they did it on little to no sleep, because I’m absolutely terrified I’m going to start flagging and be too tired to go through this!
I don’t feel too bad right now, I’m going to try sleep after the pessary but I’m unsure how that will go

Arrrrrrgh! I’m so scared!

You've got this! You're going to be amazing and you'll meet your baby soon!

Cantchooseaname · 18/05/2018 07:10

You will be fine!! It could take a while to get things going anyway.
Get some rest, even if you aren’t sleeping.
Good luck!! It will all be a distant memory soon.... and you will cope on less sleep than you ever thought possible.

Childrenofthesun · 18/05/2018 07:11

You'll be fine. I didn't sleep at all the night before I went into labour as baby was moving so much, then had a 14 hour labour.

Mybabystolemysanity · 18/05/2018 07:14

I spent a week on a maternity ward waiting for an induction slot because they were ultra busy. Like you, by the time they had cleared everyone else through, I was exhausted and knew there was no way I could go through labour. I had a very heated negotiation with a senior midwife and discharged myself overnight to go home and sleep in my own bed. Came back the next day, did another night on the ward and had baby the next morning. I had an ARM, not the pessaries.

IMO, it's always worth telling the midwives you are feeling extremely tired. Hopefully they might be able to assist you to rest in the next 24 hours, be that in a side room, with a sleeping tablet or even letting you home for a little while.

Obviously, it depends on your medical situation. Do ask though. If it helps, my labour progressed quickly once waters were broken, so it wasn't hours and hours long.

I went into labour (waters breaking and contractions starting) as I got into bed to go to sleep. I also ended up needing the hormone drip as contractions weren't strong enough and they were worried about the baby. I was so tired but you get through it, once you really get going you forget how tired you are.

Good luck Thanks

My induction was fairly quick, I had 6 hours before full blown labour after the pessary. Plenty of time to try and get your head down for a bit if you need it.
Hope it goes well.

HazyDays81 · 18/05/2018 07:19

When I was induced I had 4 hours after the pessary was put in when I felt fine & could have slept if I’d wanted to. Then my waters broke & baby arrived 5 hours after so wasn’t a long labour. Good luck! Let us know how you get on x

AvoidingDM · 18/05/2018 07:20

Good luck.
The hospital I went to do the first pessary at night. With the logic that not much normally happens after 1st pessary.
I got a reasonable sleep after it went in. Then they do second one in the morning my LO was born at lunch time.

kikibo · 18/05/2018 09:12

I had a 25-hour labour start to finish which began when I went to bed... at 1.30 am... my midwife looked horrified when she checked at about 11am lol. When DD finally came at 3 am the next day I couldn't even think about sleeping until they took her away to dress and wash her.

You'll be fine.

Wait4nothing · 18/05/2018 09:16

I managed a few hours sleep after the first pessary - ear plugs and eye mask at the ready!

colditz · 18/05/2018 09:21

You will be absolutly fine, and I shall tell you why

Adrenaline is a HELL of a drug and yours is about to go through the roof.

Once the baby is here, hand it to your birth partner, eat your toast, drink your tea and TRY to sleep. get your partner to wake you for feeds if you're breastfeeding but otherwise, you don't need to do anything. baby can bond with daddy/othermummy/grandma.

TuTru · 18/05/2018 09:25

Whatever happens you will get through it. Don’t worry.
You’ll have to sleep when baby sleeps once it’s all done xxx

ALY44 · 18/05/2018 09:37

My first labour was 53 hours, not a slow labour either it began with contractions 10 mins apart and they never slowed the whole time.

Ur body is an amazing thing that can cope with labour and childbirth as it was designed to do. Good luck with the birth it will all be worth it soon

mumofmunchkin · 18/05/2018 14:07

You will be fine! I was in latent labour for three days with my first - contractions every 10/15 mins for three days during which time there was not a lot of sleep, and then 14 hours of labour. The kid arrived, and is happy and healthy (and about to start school Shock)

FranticallyPeaceful · 18/05/2018 19:57

Thank you so much. This really gave me a boost earlier when I needed it! I truly appreciate it.

Currently 9 hours after the pessary and the frequent tightenings have turned into painful longer ones... but I’m still okay! Coherent enough to use my phone in between and carry on watching Netflix ha Smile

@FranticallyPeaceful hope things are progressing well for you! Wishing you all the best Flowers

SecretStash · 19/05/2018 08:01

They used to give women sleeping tablets the day before, for this very reason!

The night before my induction I didn’t sleep a wink either. Thankfully my induction only took two pessaries and I was off!
Sounds like yours is the same.
Best of luck.

sexnotgender · 19/05/2018 08:06

Hope you’re currently cuddling your lovely new baby Flowers

FranticallyPeaceful · 19/05/2018 08:49

Thank you so much. My little man was born this morning at 3:15! Had the pessary at 11am yesterday. Took some time to build and then went from 3-10cm in rocket speed and nearly gave birth on the ward rather than the delivery room Grin OH had to practically carry me to the room whilst I was growling caveman style because I just couldn’t move once I’d grabbed onto him!

so tired but so happy!
Thank you everybody so much earlier for the confidence boost I needed Flowers

OMG congratulations! So glad it went well for you. Same birth story as me. Those pessaries can really do the job eh! Hope you’re in good shape and sniffing your babe. Hoorah!

GlitteryFluff · 19/05/2018 08:51

Ah lovely. Congratulations!

HazyDays81 · 19/05/2018 08:54

Yey!! So thrilled for you Grin

AvoidingDM · 19/05/2018 09:23

Congratulations!!!
Very similar to me. I have no idea how quickly I got to 10cm but mine was born on the ward!
