Hi everyone...

Just looking for a little advice.

I was exercising twice weekly (full blown CrossFit) until the start of the year but stopped when suffering flu, I then fell pregnant in February and have had hardly enough energy to get up in the morning let alone go back to class.

I'm now 13 weeks and feeling much better and want to start doing something again.

I don't want to go back to CrossFit, I feel this is way too much considering I've had so long off but wanting to try spinning...

I've never spinned before so have know idea what it has in store.

Any advice would be greatly received

Xxx

I think spinning is a good one to try because it’s easy to control the intensity yourself. You can increase or decrease the resistance to a level you’re comfortable with, or cycle a bit faster or slower if you get tired.

I'm 18 weeks and have been spinning throughout. I was going regularly before I got pregnant. Spinning is quite an intense class (I haven't done CrossFit so I wouldn't be able to compare). If you were quite fit before, I'd give it a shot. I'm sure you know this already, but tell the instructor that you're pregnant. Don't be tempted to push yourself and listen to your body.

I have a fitbit with a heart rate monitor and keep an eye on it - I don't let my heart rate go above 170 (otherwise I think it would be 180 for the whole session!). I also tend to put a quarter turn on when the instructor tells me to put a half, and take some off if I need to.

They say you're good on a stationary bike, so it's good right until birth (if you can be bothered!). I definitely have started getting more uncomfortable on the bike over the last couple of weeks though. I also like that there's no chance of accidental impact or doing something you shouldn't (I had to give up weights, because I wasn't sure what I could and couldn't do, which was sad).

I have been spinning 3 times a week until just now. I’m 32 weeks. You can regulate and no pressure on joints etc. Be careful with your balance though. I was uncomfortable racing standing up for example so always did this sitting down. I only stopped recently as I feel my bump is in the way and I don’t get any enjoyment out of it.

I would say it’s probably worth investing in cleats if you are going to do spinning as without being properly attached to the pedals, you’ll find a lot more pressure on your undercarriage. I got on my turbo trainer the other day to check I still fit and it felt horrible, put cleats on and felt a million times better as the weight was spread much more evenly.
