Shower products for intimate area

Anyone know of any shower products that can soothe the intimate area and serve some protection against thrush etc, that’s safe during pregnancy? I’ve done some reasearch and have found canesfresh feminine wash but not sure if this is safe during pregnancy.

Not sure about shower stuff and apologies if tmi. I had severe thrush with my first and needed the tablet and cream. Are you worried you can't use it. I ended seeing the doctors and they prescribed it.
Congrats on your pregnancy.

Pessary... that's the word. Mind went blank.

Gem173 · 16/05/2018 18:14

Oh no I have the pessary and creams :) I just wanted to keep on top of my hygiene and do anything to ensure that this thrush doesn’t come back. Currently on the treatment given to me :)

That wash is amazing. It's got glycine in so it calms any irritation.

Gem173 · 16/05/2018 18:21

@FeralBeryl that’s positive, have you used it during pregnancy?

Not personally, but have a friend who is currently pregnant and suffering and has run it past her GP. I use it myself daily anyway though.
No ingredients in there are harmful to foetuses though too. Thanks

Gem173 · 16/05/2018 18:28

So your friends gp says it’s okay?
I’ve read reviews and it’s been very positive. May go buy one tomorrow and maybe just ask the pharmacist present at the time of purchase :)

Best to take a probiotic and eat plenty of live yoghurt, then just use plain water to wash.

MagicalCreatures · 16/05/2018 22:34

Have you tried just staying away from anything with perfume and parabens etc.
I use the sanex zero% all the time now. It has no colourants or parabens or soap. X

The vagina is self cleaning. Warm water, regular showers/baths and nothing else eg. No soaps or perfumed products should be enough to keep you clean.

As for 'keeping on top of hygiene' thrush has nothing to do with being dirty!

dinosaurkisses · 17/05/2018 12:27

Overwashing can actually make it worse, so I wouldn’t be going mad. Like a PP said your vagina is self cleaning, so although a lot of changes are going on down there it doesn’t mean it’s dirty.

I used a bit of femfresh later on in pregnancy just for the crotch area, but really just plain water will be all you need. Get some decent panty liners and wash with plain, not too hot water morning and evening and you’ll be fine.

SiolGhoraidh · 17/05/2018 12:59

@Poptart4 is right. Nothing should be going on your delicate bits except clean water. It's one thing to wash the outside (pubic mound and hair), but the mucous membranes (within the lips) do not need anything except a rinse with water.

Using other products can actually irritate things further and make thrush or other issues harder to shift. If you are having recurring bouts of thrush it's worth asking your GP to check for bacterial vaginosis as that is treated differently and won't respond to thrush treatments.

In terms of prevention, things like cotton knickers, no tight jeans and no bubble or hot baths can help. Also making sure anything that goes near it is scrupulously clean - washing your hands before the loo as well as after, and even insisting your other half scrubs his bits before sex.

Gem173 · 17/05/2018 13:37

This is my first bout of thrush this pregnancy so Im not too worried. I’ve used a pessary and the thrush has seemed to just fade away. Il just use warm water for my privates, I only really used normal shower gel down there in the first place.
To be clear I don’t cleanse inside (douche) I just give it a quick rinse off with shower gel. But now will just use warm water.
Thanks for your kind messages and words of wisdom. Fingers crossed the thrush doesnt return 🤞

Glad it seems to be passing now. It's blooming miserable while you've got it!

I use Dermol as a soap substitute and it works really well on outside (I have Intertrigo) but inside I am prone to BV so I can use treatment for that that's safe if needed when swabbed.

moreismore · 17/05/2018 21:34

I came on to say dermol too.

Smellyjo · 17/05/2018 23:00

Cutting out sugar can help thrush as that's what it thrives on.
