I few to Boston on a city break when I was 9 weeks. It was fine, though tiring, and I flew in workout gear as I knew I would swell up. However if unlike me you get sickness you will find that Miserable in Greece in August when it's 40 degrees plus and you have to eat what they give you instead of being able to eat crackers or toast.

Pregnant in the Maldives.

Couldn't drink. I had one cocktail all week sob. But I was week 11 by then and the nausea had worn off a bit.

I was in bed pretty early tho.

I was exhausted in my first trimester - never known tiredness like it. Barely kept my eyes open at work, would get home and just fall asleep on the sofa at 6pm. You'll still have a lovely time on holiday but be prepared for tiredness, plus possible nausea.

Also, as a PP said, Greece in August will be stifling - you might want to change your destination. Definitely go somewhere though, life shouldn't stop if you're TTC/ pregnant!

It completely depends. Some women feel ok (though most at least feel tired). I had hyperemesis, migraines, fatigue/exhaustion etc. I couldn't have flown. I wouldn't risk it but that's because I know how rough I felt. Sleep feel pretty naff at 16 weeks!

I've been away twice pregnant, it was fine just boring being careful with food and no alcohol. I would probably wait until August if I was you, it's not that far away and might be your last lively holiday!

Ohcomeonn · 16/05/2018 18:44

I'm 8 weeks. I can't even walk my dd half an hour to playgroup because I'm so exhausted and vomiting all the time.

I went away during my last pregnancy at 12 weeks. It was tough as I was exhausted and struggling with food as I had gone off so many things albeit not vomiting too much. But I do regret it, it was somewhere I had wanted to go to for years and years and morning sickness (or in my case, all day sickness and exhaustion) ruined it for me.

Tbh, I'd wait until you return from holiday to ttc.

You might be lucky, some friends have strolled through the first trimester.

I’m currently 7.5 weeks and couldn’t think of anything worse than being on holiday now. I’m sick, bloated and can’t stomach anything except toast and rich tea biscuits. However a lot of people would be absolutely fine!
I went on holiday abroad at 34 weeks in both pregnancies and a lot of people said they’d have hated it at that stage so it entirely depends on your pregnancy I think.

SoyDora · 16/05/2018 18:46

Oh and I’m absolutely exhausted and am in bed for 8pm every night at the moment

TeeBee · 16/05/2018 18:47

Ive holidayed through my first trimester. Perfectly fine except no bloody Italian wine!!
Also flown long haul for work while 7 months pregnant. Also fine except the flight attendants wouldn't help put my bag in the overhead locker...fuckers.
You'll be fine, it's just pregnancy. Just get on with it. If you think you'll be fine, you'll be fine.

cookiesaurus · 16/05/2018 18:49

I went to Mauritius in April for 2 weeks when I was 10 weeks. To be honest, I felt that the morning sickness was better there than at home - I still had it, but the sun was shining, I was totally relaxed and I got loads of sleep - it was just what I needed.

The food wasn't great given my tastes/aversions etc, but it wasn't really an issue tbh.

I love going on holiday and really enjoyed the fact we could still go away and have a ' couples' holiday given that holidays from October onwards will have a different focus /be to different resorts!

I say go for it!!

SoyDora · 16/05/2018 18:50

If you think you'll be fine, you'll be fine

Well... it’s not quite that simple for everyone. I’m throwing up approx 10 tines a day, and would hate to be doing that in a hot country while trying to enjoy myself. It’s not people being precious, some are just more affected by pregnancy than others.

CaraDeanna · 16/05/2018 18:54

If you think you'll be fine, you'll be fine.

I thought I would be fine. I wasn't fine.

Ended up in hospital with dehydration due to vomiting so much.

Aw12345 · 16/05/2018 18:54

You never know how your pregnancy will be so I personally wouldn't... I was in hospital with hyperemesis around 10 weeks... Vomiting 30 times a day so no way at all I would have been able to go on a flight! But everyone's pregnancy is different so you may feel absolutely fine :-)

Also you never know how long it takes to get pregnant... I got pregnant the day I stopped the pill! Very lucky I know but you just never know! It is possible!!

juneau · 16/05/2018 18:59

This is a 'how long is a piece of string?' question, because some people have very mild symptoms, others vomit from morning to night, and you're not going to know which camp you fall into until it happens (although how your DM reacted to pregnancy can give you a clue ... though not necessarily!)

I never vomited when I was pregnant, either time, but first trimester most women feel really tired, nauseous (but often without being sick), and just listless. I wouldn't want to be in Greece in August where it can be 40 degrees and be preggers. Of course, you might not conceive in the next two months, in which case you'll want to go on your holiday, but if you do then you could have a seriously crap week away.

BergamotMouse · 16/05/2018 19:12

I wouldn't risk being in first trimester on holiday. I'd wait until you get back to TTC. I'm just out of the first trimester and still feel awful most of the time. I have hyperemesis (now controlled by medication) but weeks 6-10 I couldn't move off the bed. I was lucky to make it to the sofa for a bit of tv but most of the day was in bed with an audiobook.

You might sail through it but chances are you'd be feeling nauseous, even if not sick.

I do not get on with pregnancy!!!!

TroubledLichen · 16/05/2018 19:23

Second trimester, I’d totally do it and other than the lack of alcohol I’d imagine you’d have a great time. First trimester, not in a million years.

You’ll be tired, most women get some sort of morning sickness so even if you’re not puking the entire time you’ll probably feel nauseous. It’s not nice to talk about it but miscarriage in the first 12 weeks does happen. It’s always awful but having to go through that in a foreign hospital would be even more horrific.

Personally I’d wait until after the holiday to start trying and would view it as one last pre-pregnancy/pre-kids hurrah and go totally mental! Or if you do start trying right away and you conceive before the holiday then I would cancel (would travel insurance pay out if you had a doctor’s note for morning sickness?) and rearrange for when you’re further along.

TheSatsumaConsumer · 16/05/2018 19:30

I had hyperemesis whilst 8 weeks pregnant, in Crete, in July. It was hell and I felt so guilty for not being able to enjoy the holiday. I have it again 5 years later and am very glad not to be away!

I wouldn’t risk it having been through that, but obviously everyone is different.

Hope you have a great time, whatever happens.
