Best creams/oils for stretchmarks??

I need to stock up before my bump grows!

Thank you

I’m using palmers stretch mark massage lotion in the morning and in the evenings I rub bio oil on the bump. Started before the bump grew and I’m now 25 weeks and he’s starting to get noticably bigger. Haven’t seen any new stretch marks just some white ones on the top of my thighs which were there before I started the moisturising regime. :)

There are different thoughts on this. I'm in the camp of - it's largely down to your skin type. Apparently my granny swore by rubbing olive oil over your stomach the whole pregnancy as she got no stretch marks, she talked my mum into doing it and my mum got a stomach full anyway. I got a few each of my last two pregnancies but not too bad, though got some in the days AFTER the baby had arrived which I was peeved at!

I understand that the stretching that causes stretch marks happens really deep down in the skin, and moisturisers don't generally reach there.

Nothing makes a difference, they either appear or don’t IMO.

BlueRaincoat89 · 16/05/2018 14:11

I've unfortunately got a lot with this, my first pregnancy. I don't think moisturisers will stop or get rid of them but I use almond oil and it does reduce the redness of them.

Lightsong · 16/05/2018 14:59

I didn't get any at all in either of my pregnancies. I didn't use any lotions and I got really fat as well as big bump lol. So I agree that you either get them or you don't, can't prevent them.

BlueBug45 · 16/05/2018 15:11

It's down to genes as, as other posters have pointed out moisturisers can't get into the deeper layers of your skin.

Palmers then bio oil just needed to find new markets for their products and targeting them at women in pregnancy who are likely to get stretch marks was one of them.

I've been using different Palmers formulas since I was a kid (I'm in my 40s) and it was hard to get in the UK. It was interesting to see how their targeted marketing and then that of bio-oils changed over the years.

I’m 34 weeks and don’t have any YET. I am waiting for them to turn up though as my mum had loads and I think it’s generic. Cream is good because it keeps your skin hydrated which can only help but that’s any cream. I wouldn’t buy a specific one as I don’t think it works. Good luck!

RLOU88 · 16/05/2018 15:14

*Genetic!

Roeslein · 16/05/2018 16:04

I've been using Bio Oil and I love it! To be fair I'm not really using it to prevent stretch marks (would be a nice if unlikely bonus - am only 23 weeks so obviously none so far) but rather for my own comfort - I have dry skin and get a very itchy belly and the Bio Oil works like charm on that. Also nice smell and generally pleasant to use. Have stopped counting the bottles I've gone through since the beginning of this pregnancy.

SLR1906 · 16/05/2018 17:46

Thanks everyone. I did hear that it depends on your skin type. Ive always been lucky with normal ish skin and no spots but have had an itchy belly recently as its growing! Any suggestions for that??

Yeah creams and lotions make no difference. Pretty sure it's down to genetics, and a bit of luck! I barely used anything and didn't get a single stretch mark despite having a huuuge bump.

Mousefunky · 16/05/2018 20:02

They honestly make no difference, it is down to skin elasticity and genetics- neither of which you can alter. Cocoa butter smells delicious and makes your skin super soft but aside from that, it won’t have any effect.

I have the exact same stretch marks as my DM.
