Hello all -
So I've got hypermobility syndrome, which has inevitably led to me having sciatica and SPD now at 33+3 weeks. It's not severe currently (though it's really not much fun!) and I'm waiting to hear about a physio appointment, but does anyone have any experience/advice about what I should consider including in my birth plan?
A while ago, someone suggested to me that I should consider stating that in the event of intervention being required, I should avoid an instrumental delivery and escalate to a c-section due to a higher potential risk of damage to my pelvis from a forceps delivery.
The problem is, I can't seem to actually talk to anyone knowledgeable about this. I've been trying to call my midwife team for 2 weeks and no-one calls me back. I've had to go round the houses to even get a physio referral (in the end, via the midwife who leads my antenatal course because I just couldn't get a GP appointment or get my midwife team to call me) and at my last appointment when I asked if I could speak about this issue with the consultant midwife, the midwife leading my appointment said she'd ask and then call me back but that the consultant midwife 'probably wouldn't want to speak to me'. Needless to say, she never called me back.
I feel a bit lost and unsupported! Who can I talk to for some sensible advice?
Whilst my hypermobility syndrome is nowhere near as severe as it is for many others, even when not pregnant it does cause me pain on a daily basis and I really really want to do whatever I can to avoid worsening that in the long run, even if that means a harder short-term recovery from a c-section.
That said, I don't know if the anecdotal advice I've been given is based in fact/research/evidence.
What should I do?!
