Help- I’ve got thrush and I can’t get rid of it

Basically my title. Have had an itchy tickly feeling just inside my vagina. Have had it for nearly a week now. I had my last midwife appt last weds when it first started and she told me to use the canesten cream. When i put the cream on the area, it burns slightly and I’m not sure this is normal? The itchy feeling comes and goes but I have it like 70% of the day. I’ve used the cream now for 7 days and it’s still here. I’ve been prescribed a pessary but when I went to the docs they said it has a manufacturing issue so I couldn’t have it and to come back today to get an alternative.
It’s gotten to the point where I can’t sleep because of the itchiness and I can’t focus at work because of it. Anyone know of any remedies that can help improve my symptoms?
I would get another doctors appt and do a swab test for bv but I’ve not got bad discharge or any of the symptoms for that and I’ve been tested clear for UTI.

Sorry ladies, I’m a first time mum and I guess it’s not that bad, it’s just the first time I’ve had a bit of bleeding this pregnancy. I’m 25 weeks pregnant and it has been smooth sailing till now.

I had the same issue re getting hold of the pessary on prescription a few weeks ago.

I just bought one over the counter instead, think it was less than £5 for a non branded one. Worked a treat and very quickly.

Sometimes they won't sell you them if you're pregnant but the pharmacy could see I had a prescription for one that I couldn't exchange so was happy to sell me one.

Yes the cream does sting but persevere with it.

You definitely need to get the pessary!!!

MyNameIsTotoro · 15/05/2018 06:37

That bleeding is probably just irritation from where your wiping, I've had similar

FranticallyPeaceful · 15/05/2018 06:38

Agree with PP, you need the pessary really. I’d get one over the counter. Pessary for inside and cream for vulva etc

FranticallyPeaceful · 15/05/2018 06:39

And yeah the blood will be from irritation

PollyPelargonium52 · 15/05/2018 06:41

If you get a tampon and pop it in live yoghourt e.g. Yeo Valley and insert. It should help no end. Keep trying that for a couple of days and see how it goes.

midnight1983 · 15/05/2018 06:42

Put plain, live natural yogurt on your vulva directly. Also eat loads of it. Avoid foods with lots of yeast and sugar. I had an issue with the pessary as well and was prescribed an alternative brand of the same thing. As for the bleeding, I did get that from wiping hard but you should call your delivery suite/midwives and ask them about it in case its not from the thrush. Good luck!

Mama Nature of London (think it's called Mummies with Tummies) do a natural thrush treatment and it is great. Very soothing. You can get it from Amazon.

MyNameIsTotoro · 15/05/2018 06:55

YY to bathing your bits in Yeo Valley natural yogurt. So soothing!!! I'd put some on a pad, will really help the irritation.

Still need that pessary though!

mookinsx · 15/05/2018 07:01

Book a phone call or appt with your GP - they can give advice and prescribe anything needed. As well as taking necessary samples/swabs

StrawberryLemonade · 15/05/2018 07:02

Treating thrush in pregnancy needs a longer course of pessaries than just the one off over the counter dose. Ideally 6 consecutive nights of 100mg pessaries. Only thing that cleared mine in last pregnancy and this is the treatment that guidelines state. Cream on its own won’t work as the infection comes from up inside the vagina.

AnnieAnoniMouser · 15/05/2018 07:03

Don’t worry about the blood, it’s just from the inflamed sensitive skin.

Cut out sugar. All obvious sugar and bread, pasta, potatoes etc. You’ll notice a huge difference in 2-3 days and it’ll stay away if you stick to that.

Grandmaswagsbag · 15/05/2018 07:05

I had this in 1st regnancy and I had salt baths every night which seemed to work, I Never thought I had a bad enough infection to get treated as I had no discharge juts bad itching but if I had it again I probably would see a gp as it’s soooo annoying!

Gem173 · 15/05/2018 09:07

Thanks ladies, you have calmed me down. I’m currently in the walk in centre (my bosses orders after telling her my issue). Waiting to see a dr or pharmacist so I can get guidance on the pessary needed. If they can Il push for a swab so that I can get clarification of thrush. Will try stay away from sugary items but that’s really hard as that’s basically what I live on! If I can’t get a pessary here at walk in centre, will go buy one and will ring my doctors and see if my alternative is ready to be collected.

Only other issue is, I’ve not got my prescription with me. My doctors took it back off me when they filed it to get me an alternative for today. So not sure if I can just get one without evidence of prescription.

Hopefully youll get some help from the walk in centre..even if they just give you anothet prescription as evidence to buy.

Few tips while you recover. Avoid too many sugary foods or yeasty foods like bread. Ideally while treating thrush you want as low sugar diet as possible (dont worry you can go back to your normal diet after!) And eat lots of antibiotics.. live yogurts etc! It really does speed up the process a lot.

Gem173 · 15/05/2018 10:34

Walk in centre was waste of time. Just seen these in boots. They ok to buy?

Yes, that's likely what your prescription would have been for.

Tbf, there's not a lot the walk in centre could have done. You've already had a prescription, you just couldn't exchange it through no fault of your own.

I disagree that you'd definitely need more than one pessary. Mine cleared up with one pessary and the cream.

Just to add to all these comments. Get yourself a good quality probiotic tablet too. Just for Tummies sell a high quality one and their customer service is excellent for advice.

Gem173 · 15/05/2018 12:21

Hopefully one pessary will be all I need! My boss has kindly let me off for the rest of the day to collect my prescription and just go find a pharmacy that have it. That or buy it and come back in tomorrow hopefully feeling better. Doctors and appointments are such a nuisance! Thanks all for the comments and the help. And just to be clear when I get the pessary they say it’s better to insert it with your hand because of the cervix. How far up do you insert it exactly? I’m so sore I can’t imagine having to rummage around in it and stretch it. Sorry if tmi !

Just thought I’d update in case anyone whose curious about thrush. I managed to get my prescription yesterday and used the pessary last night. However I don’t think it worked properly as I had trouble inserting it manually. Taking day off work to get an emergency appt at the doctors to get it looked at, to get a swab and to see if I can be prescribed an internal cream instead of a pessary.
