I'm about 6 weeks pg.

Before I got the bfp I booked a nice camping break. On a farm. With a hot tub. Hmm

I'd paid the deposit obviously but haven't paid the rest yet.

What would you do? I could maybe try and book it for when I'm not pregnant, but then, a baby or toddler can't go in the hot tub either can they, and thinking about it I don't think the camping cabin would also fit a travel cot plus me, DP, teen DS and dog.

Would you try and change the date, or just lose the deposit??

Why can’t you just go? I think it’s fine to use a hot tub in short bursts? Have a nice last peaceful break before baby arrives.

When are you going? How far along will you be?

If it was second trimester then I wouldn't think twice about going, especially if it's one of those hot tubs where you can control the temperature yourself. Even first would be okay if you only used the hot tub for 5-10 mins at a time as the above poster says.

And don't worry about it being on a farm - unless you're planning on doing some lambing that's a non-issue.

I remember early first tri anxiety well myself though. Can you chat to your midwife about it at booking in?

I’d still go! Just put your legs in the hot tub that’s what I’ve done in 3 pregnancies.

I’ve also been camping at car festivals in 2 of my pregnancies it’s never been a problem

I remember going camping when I was about 6 months pregnant with DS and being soo uncomfortable, I didn't enjoy it a bit or sleep well, when usually I'm a happy little camper lol.

I thought hot tubs were a big no no in pregnancy, happy to be told otherwise.

I would be approximately 15 weeks pg for the week I've booked..

Go camping but don’t go in the hot tub? Or stick feet/legs in as PP said. I went on a city break to Bruges at 11 weeks pregnant during morning sickness and it was still nice to go away. Depends if it’s more luxury camping then sleeping on the ground camping though!

Poptart4 · 14/05/2018 14:35

You can't use hot tubes while pregnant but that doesn't mean you can't go. Surely there will be other things to do?

At 15 weeks you won't be too big so you should be fine. Plus it's probably your last chance for a relaxing break before baby arrives.

Camping isn't really my thing but if you like it then I don't see why you can't go.

YourHandInMyHand · 14/05/2018 14:45

I'll be honest it was mainly the hot tub that we booked it for. We were looking forward to all chilling out in it, and not doing a great deal except relax in the hot tub and potter about reading and eating lol.

I do all the holiday organising and paying, if I didn't we'd never go anywhere and me and DS love having little getaways. I'll feel very resentful to pay for a holiday just to watch the men of the house do more relaxing than me ha ha.

I'm also not sure how I will feel by then. I'm very aware I could be having another pregnancy with hyperemesis/extreme sickness, in which case a hospital bed is more likely than a camping bed.

Perhaps I'm overthinking. I don't know. At the moment I'm leaning more towards trying to book something as a last minute booking IF I feel up to it.

It's not just the water temperature in hot tubs that poses a risk. Potential infection from the water is also a concern.

BumbleNova · 14/05/2018 15:29

There is new well regarded research that disproves the theory that hot tubs are a risk. 20 mins max is perfectly safe. It makes sense of the fact that very few babies have neural tube defects in Finland where many women use saunas in pregnancy. I'll try and find a link.

Grandmaswagsbag · 14/05/2018 15:40

Was just reading that article. I’ve been using jacuzzi/steam room through this pregnancy for short bursts. It would make sense to tell women to err on the side of caution but when there’s really no evidence that it’s harmful if used sensibly (not roasting yourself) personally I’m happy to do it. In your case op I’d be more worried about the severe sickness! However it’s very early days so I don’t think I’d be cancelling anything just yet.
