So my best friend has just met her perfect partner she is 37.5 and has never been pregnant before is this going to be hard for her to conceive?

Probably not no.

Oysterbabe · 13/05/2018 23:41

When you say just met, are they trying to conceive now? Chances are she'll be fine.

Louclare · 13/05/2018 23:45

I mean they are going to start trying they have not been together long but worried clocks ticking

There are so many variables, it's not just age.

For me it should have all been over in my early 30s, though unknown to me, due to AMH levels of a woman 10-15 years older.

Other women will start to try at 42, have no problems and 2 healthy kids by the time they're 45.

If they have any concerns they should ask GP to check them over. Initial fertility investigations would be blood tests and supermarkets count which are none invasive and cheap so GP likely to agree.

How long's a piece of string?

I had no problem at 42 - and my cycles are irregular - but I know women who were in their 20s who had to use IVF. The advice is to try for 6 months then go to the GP.

It would help when they are trying to use ovulation prediction kits as individual women cycles vary, to have sex every couple of days and eat properly.

How about getting a fertility MOT to check things like ovarian reserves and sperm count? There are various tests that are carried out. She and her partner can get this checked out while TTC on their own efforts.

The age at which her mother went through the menopause can also provide hints, as it is likely to be fairly similar for her, and on average women lose the ability to get pregnant naturally about 10 years before the menopause. However, there is still a lot of guesswork where this kind of thing is concerned.

There is absolutely no way of knowing OP

I'm 38 - I was pregnant at 38 and currently 8 mths now. Dh is 37 and I would say until recently we both are badly and we are both overweight. It's the luck of the drawer I'm afraid!

EmmaJR1 · 14/05/2018 06:29

Pregnant at 36 the first time! Typo!

EmmaJR1 · 14/05/2018 06:30

Christ! ATE BADLY!

headstone · 14/05/2018 06:54

I think statistically she has around a 70 percent chance of falling naturally.

BikeRunSki · 14/05/2018 07:12

As everyone else has says, there are far too many variables to tell. Everybody is different. I had my dc at 37 and 40, both conceived naturally on the first cycle. DM was amazed, since she had her menopause at 37. I am 47 and show no signs!

Equally, I have a friend who has been unable to conceive her second at 30, despite Fertility treatment.

wibs77 · 14/05/2018 07:20

I met my husband at the same age. I am now 40 and pregnant. I was lucky only 2nd month of trying. No one really knows until they try.

Paleblue · 14/05/2018 07:27

I know lots of parents who had their first child at 37 or older

OutsideContextProblem · 14/05/2018 07:34

To be brutal, staying pregnant is more difficult than getting pregnant at that age. The odds are still on her side, all other things being equal, and the most likely outcome is that she will get pregnant within a year and have a healthy baby, but a large minority of women in their late thirties will have problems conceiving or at least one miscarriage.

Newdad82 · 14/05/2018 07:52

Im 35 and my DW is 37. She’s 15 weeks at the moment. Use those ovulation tester sticks to work out when the best time to conceive is.. hopefully you dont have any issues, but good to give youself the best chance!

MadameJosephine · 14/05/2018 07:55

Only time will tell. Give it 6 months of regular unprotected sex and if she’s not pregnant she can ask her GP for referral to a fertility clinic

jamoncrumpets · 14/05/2018 10:14

I conceived pretty quickly at 36. By pretty quickly I mean the first time we tried.
