Half hearted kicking

Hi, I'm 27 weeks, and i've noticed in the past couple of weeks that there is much less kicking and jabbing than before. I told the midwife this on 9th may who explained that this was probably down to the way the baby was lying and i shouldn't worry. since then only had a few proper pokes and kicks. still getting rumbles and flutters so there is movement there. i just don't feel that they are as strong as before but that might be down to worry. Just need some reassurance that sometimes the baby might have quiet days and that it's my imagination that she is becoming quieter. It's my first pregnancy and so far it's been all good, scans normal, blood pressure good. got the midwife next wed. Sorry for the long moan.

I would phone the hospital and tell them, I was told that if I didnt get ten movements a day then to phone in.

Hi Polly

My DS definitely had quiet days and it used to worry me too. Everything was fine though. As they get bigger there's less room for them to kick out and I found DS tended to push rather than kick as he got bigger. As I understand it if you feel no movement at all over 2 hours you should go get checked out but remember they sleep as well although their schedule is nothing like ours.

Hope that helps

definitely had quieter days than others with both pg's!

i think at this stage they still have lots of places to wiggle into and hide!

also the position of your placenta can make a difference, if it's in front it can cushion a lot of kicks (mine was high anterior in both)

but if you are worried contact your madwife or ante-natal clinic so they can liseten in and reassure you!!

Thanks for your posts, I think i will phone the maternity unit tonight. The worrying is probably not helping but it is reassuring to hear that babies do have quieter days. This is going to be a long day!

Have a cold drink of orange juice and lie on your side on the floor/sofa for a while - see if that helps
