Hi all. Currently 5w4d so very early days for me! Lots of my friends have joined NCT whilst pregnant and have always said how great it is for classes and meeting other mums etc. But when should I join up and start putting my name down for classes? I know the simple answer is probably, 'Whenever you want' Grin. I don't want to join up way too early and then something awful happen but I don't want to leave it too late and miss out on things! I just wondered when other people have joined or are thinking of joining with their first pregnancy?!
Thanks all Smile

Congratulations on your pregnancy! We were super excited about booking NCT so booked pretty much straight away after my 12 week scan, we knew we over the riskiest bit by then :-)
Good luck with it all :-) xx

Congratulations!

The cancellation policy is really good too, you only lose £30 if you have to cancel in advance (and if you cancel because baby is born early you get all your money back or proportionally if you have attended some of the course) so I figured it was worth it to book early and not risk missing out. That said, the course I booked on at 12 weeks still isn't booked up and I'm 19 weeks now. You can probably wait a few more weeks ;)

I am also doing an NCT pregnancy yoga class which is pay per week. You can start that from 12 weeks if there's one near you, although I started at 15 weeks and everyone else was at least 2 weeks further along than me.

The advise I read is not to bother booking classes until your 20 week scan as lots unfortunately can go wrong before then. Also you may actually be given a due date after your dating scan at 12 weeks that is a week ahead or behind.

Anyway you won't actually see a midwife for a booking appointment in the majority of areas before around 10 weeks so booking NCT classes is very premature.

Thanks all for the replies. @TinyTerror1 - had you done any yoga before you started the pregnancy yoga course? I've always done classes at the gym but never yoga but I do want to try pregnancy yoga!

Obviously can't speak for tinyterror but my pregnancy yoga class was sold as being suitable for complete beginners and definitely is - I had done some before but not for years, and lots of other people there never have.

I am 18+4 and signed up for the course this week. They didnt actually offer courses that far ahead until last month so you will probably find that there arent really any available for a while yet

I hadn't done any yoga before, it is suitable for beginners. It is largely about breathing and stretching, there are some poses that you can extend further if you are more advanced but there is also always an option to do an easy move.
